Weekly Group Golf Games

We've got a group at my club that is starting a weekly group. Should be between 12-20 players most weeks. Most of us are younger guys, so we haven't really organized something like this before.
We have figured out how to do sign ups, but other than that, how do you guys usually set a format? A main game then side games like skins? Do you play one game every week or switch it up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most groups I have played tend to have a entry pot that incorporates a Nassua and Skins money. For example, $20 entry. $12 goes toward thew Nassua and $8 goes towards skins and side bets are paid directly to player who earned them....for example, birdies get paid $2 from everyone, Sandies $1, Penalty Pars $1.

I don't have a weekly game or anything like that, but since our last guy's trip, I've been using a free app called Squabbit. It is highly configurable to fit whatever you are trying to set up. It makes it really easy to track games. I also think it has a league or regular games function.
I don't really have guidance on what to play, but if you are worried about tracking, I think this app could help. I always find games more enjoyable when you know what's on the line in the moment rather than having the poor guy with 3 score cards in the grill figuring everything out after the round.

Like Barrister said, there’s usually a set “pot” game for around $20/man. You can divide the money however y’all like. Dollar or 2 to greenies, low net, skins, etc. Then each group can do their own thing: wolf, flip, swing, etc.
A group text is usually the way to go. If you’re all part of the club, you can have set tee times if available or have someone lead it every week to make the call to a club and fill the slots.
Biggest 1st world problem there is is trying to keep 15-20 guys happy with their group every week

3-4 players per group depending on size. $10-$20 per player. Random groups each week picked by tee selection, throwing balls on the first tee box and grouping them by where they land, etc.
Score the best two balls (net) on the par 4's and 5's and all the balls (net) on the par 3's.
Low score wins.

Our regular Wednesday game has from 24-35. $10 a man. CTP is $10 payout each.
Depending on the number of groups is the payout. 8 or more groups pays 5 places. 6-7 pays 4, less pays 3. Can’t remember a time we had less than 5.
$10 additional for hole in one pot. Only paid once and the pot stays until it’s hit.
Texas 2 ball or full scramble.

I play in 4 groups per week. Every one is a bit different, but we mostly play a modified Stableford with one point bogeys, 2 point pars, 4 point birdies, and 6 point eagles. We keep running quotas, and each person is plus or minus depending on how they score vs their quota. On 2 days your group is your team. On 2 days we play individual. We put in $2 for par 3 birdies and $5 or $10 for skins.

I play in a Wednesday group which is the quota game like the poster above me. Our “godfather” has kept track of everyone’s scores for years and adjust the points based on how you did the following week. $25 entry pays for CTP, Quota and Skins.
On Friday I run a group that is a $50 entry. $25 goes to skins and $25 goes to true Stableford where I take 36 minus the HDCP.
For the Friday group I have done different games, like a 4 person quota game, 2-man best ball, etc.

Points system - adjust 50% weekly
Team format - A, B, C players (depending on the # of players)
If 10 handicap have to get 26 points (36 - 10) 18 pars @ 2 points each = 36
The 50% adjust keeps the # to get close to current form

A bunch of great answers in here, thank you guys!
This is the thing I am most worried about, with one guy being a potential issue. He ruined my round at Streamsong Red a couple weeks ago, but is unfortunately too good of a friend to totally leave out.

They call them “racks” at my club, the 2 I’m in vary the format weekly depending on how many guys sign up. The Friday one can be as big as 30-40 some weeks. That one also has a championship belt given out to the mvp each week after the round.

Have organized a weekly game for 10+ years and have found biggest considerations in what you set up are
1) Range of capabilities of the group.
If groups handicaps are in a somewhat tight range, and generally play from the same tees, then you have a lot of options to set up fair group game. Stableford, ABCD Teams, 2 man scrambles, skins, birdies, etc all work well.
If the group has a wide range of handicaps and play from different tees, it’s a bit more of a challenge to have a group game where an individual or a team doesn’t feel disadvantaged by the way the game is set up.
2) Ease of game management.
Team games are more difficult to set up. If someone has to drop out at the last minute it can be a nightmare to adjust and keep teams balanced. And managing personalities can sometimes limit team possibilities……again making it difficult to keep teams balanced.
Individual play games give much more flexibility in putting groups together, adjusting for player changes, allowing for guest play, etc
Our group has a wide range of handicaps and plays from 4 different sets of tees. After trying a number of different options over the years we landed on a target score group game. Each player contributes a $5 buy in and has a target score based on their handicap from the tees they play that day……ie if your handicap is 10 from the blue tees your target is 82 (par +10) for the game that day.
Players are awarded 1 point for each stroke they beat their target by and everyone who beats their target shares in the pool money……with the pool money being prorated by number of points earned. If only one player makes points, he gets the entire pool. If one player makes 2 points and another makes 1 it’s split 2/3 and 1/3.
To keep it fair, we play it down when conditions permit, no gimmes, and count all your strokes til you hole out. Everyone’s handicap is managed in GHIN.
Each group also plays whatever other games they might want inside their foursome. My group usually plays birdies and runs a rabbit.
Whatever you do has + and -………you’ll figure it out and have fun. Good luck!
