Is LSU's 2025 schedule too difficult to result in a playoff berth?

You need an easy schedule to get in these days. The committee cares too much about the loss column.
Here's a breakdown of the number of ranked teams (final AP poll) last year's playoff teams played in the regular season:
#1 Oregon - 2
#2 UGA - 5
#3 Boise State - 1
#4 Arizona State - 1
#5 Texas - 1
#6 Penn State - 2
#7 Notre Dame - 0
#8 Ohio State - 3
#9 Tenn - 2
#10 Indiana - 1
#11 SMU - 1
#12 Clemson - 2
Outside of UGA, this group of teams mostly beat up on bad teams. Boise, Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Indiana, SMU, and Clemson did not beat a single team in the regular season that finished in the AP top 25.
As an LSU fan, you're hoping the preseason AP is way off and a lot of the teams expected to be good will not be; otherwise, you're probably at home watching the same scenario play out.

No UGA, no Texas, get Vandy. Our schedule works, just win 10.

It could be worse. We don't play Texas or Georgis, the two highest ranked SEC teams. If we get past Clemson, we should be in good shape.

No, LSU played 4 top 10 teams in 2019 regular season. Just win baby

I don’t think that’s the best way to look at it

I'll concede it is not perfect, but relying on the ranking at the time the game was played is worthless. The preseason polls last season were a disaster.
It is noteworthy that LSU had more top 25 wins (2) than 10 of the 12 playoff teams last season.

WTF are you even talking about this data is terrible

This single sentence is wildly incorrect on multiple levels.
Notre Dame beat 1 final AP top 25 team in regular season. Ohio State beat 3.
So instead of your original 7/12 it’s 5/12.
Not even going to take the time to check your opponents played numbers but safe to say those are wrong too.

You’re trying to make a point but it wasn’t accurately backed up with actual data.

Yeah I mean Florida won’t be any good, Alabama won’t be any good, definitely can’t lose to aTm either.

Hard schedules are probably not accounted for fully with the committee, but I think we need to remember that 1) there is generally a lot of turnover from the preseason top 25 to the final top 25, 2) If you take a subset of teams with really good records, their opponents will underperform record-wise vs true talent level and they will be less likely to be ranked at the end of the year

I would feel better if we had to play Kentucky, Miss St. and Auburn, but it's not like LSU can't get there. They've made a 4 team playoff with a more difficult schedule.

Well
1) The SEC is hard
2) It is unlikely all 7 teams will remain ranked by playoff time
I think I would be onboard with just stopping this Top 10 OOC Week 1 matchups.

No, not if we play up to our talent and capability and Nuss does not get hurt.

quote:Texas had an unbelievably easy schedule for the SEC. Round 2 for them this year. If they beat OSU in a few weeks they’ll be a playoff team
Boise, Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Indiana, SMU, and Clemson did not beat a single team in the regular season that finished in the AP top 25.
They better even out the schedules going forward when they finally come to a decision on pods or whatever they decide to do
