Left out of Ft. Morgan marina around 5:30 am Saturday Aug. 2nd for a 12 hr sword trip. Crew was my wife, stepson and his girlfriend. Made bait in the bay and headed out to the ships to look for cobia. No luck there so we ran out 35 miles to catch a snapper limit. Made quick work of a limit in 2 stops with average of about 8-10 lbs. with the biggest about 18 lbs. After that we made a move about 25 more miles south and set up to start swordfish drifts. Sword fishing was slow and we did not get a bite for a few hours, but did not get a hook in the fish. I think we started sword fishing around 10:30 that morning and the 1st bite came around 1:30 or so. Capt. Vlad asked me a couple of times if we wanted to give up on the sword and go do something else, but I told him we were all in on the sword trip. A little after 5 that afternoon with everyone on the boat napping except the Capt. We get the bite. Mind you, this was a 12 hr trip and we should have been tying up to the dock by the time we got the 2nd sword bite. Chaos ensued for a couple of minutes as everyone jumped up half asleep and sunburnt but alas, we got the hook in this fish and the fight was on. After about a half hour and everyone taking turns on the reel the fish popped up next to the boat and Capt. Vlad stuck him with the harpoon. Our mate Wynn (not sure that’s spelled correctly) stuck a gaff in him and the celebration ensued. It was a long hot day but in the end we prevailed. It was my wife’s B’day trip and all she wanted was a sword, so to make a plan and grind it out until we were successful made the trip that much more special. I can’t thank Capt. Vlad and Wynn enough for all the hard work and extra effort that went into making the day successful. If You find yourself looking for a charter in Ft. Morgan? Gulf Shores area you will not be disappointed with Capt. Vlad and MSC Charters. Fishing with Vlad is like being on the boat with friends and family, he has a great personality and always has a positive outlook. I’ve been on probably a hundred charters in my life and have never enjoyed fishing with a Captain as much as Vlad, he loves fishing and it shows.

That looks like a great trip with a great captain. Nice lookin fish and I can see why Captain Vlad didn’t mind staying out past the designated charter termination. A very dedicated captain.

Vlad is a die hard fish killer and has one helluva work ethic. If he offers to cook for you do not pass up the offer !

I can tell you from personal experience that your Cpt worked his arse off for you because you were a good group. Sometimes captains and groups just mesh, sometimes they don’t.
Thanks for acknowledging his effort online.

Vlad is a good dude. I've known him way before he got into offshore fishing. Is living the american dream. Moved here from Romania with not much to his name. Mobile of all places and started his dream. Started a small sandwich shop that he grew into a small franchise and works his arse off, but plays hard now. Proud of him.

Guessing 130, we didn't weigh it because we didn't get back to the dock till about 8:20 and being Saturday night the Tacky jacks at the marina was slammed. We couldn't get to the fish board to take pics after they put our fish up because of all the people crowded around. Vlad did get a sword trip from a group who saw all our fish, so that's awesome. Will absolutely be fishing with him again.

Always great to hear good stories about charter captains. It is such a crap shoot when you are looking for someone. Great fish and thanks for sharing the story.
