What is it going to take for this Admin to interject itself into the HVAC industry

IYKYK
Environmental regulations are hamstringing the HVAC supply and repair market. HVAC companies probably making tons of money but many consumers are absolutely taking it in the arse due to changes in requirements for HVAC replacements and upgrades. Many homeowners are likely blissfully unaware of the plight they face when they go to replace their 15 year old AC unit and realize the cost will have doubled within only a couple of years.
If you are unaware Google the regulations regarding manufacturing of previously acceptable HVAC systems (ex: 410a) and how they are being phased out in favor of more energy efficient 454b units. Complete bullshite and as a PSA if you have been on the fence about it pull the trigger now while suppliers still have the previous units on hand, otherwise prepare thy anus.
High time Trump takes a massive shite on these bullshite laws that only harm ordinary citizens.

Been experiencing this myself

It was what, 2018 when 410 became the de facto refrigerant of the environment bros? That's 7 years. There are entire groups of people that have never even run that.
We can't keep changing refrigerant every 7 years.

I heard after Trump was elected that they were no longer making the more eco friendly hvac systems mandatory. I paid attention to it because I would have been required to update my entire unit.

Not sure why the downvotes to this. The gas manufacturers patents are timing out so they get the EPA to ban the gas and then they start a new patent with a different gas.

I just put in a 454b unit this week. I think it would be a mistake to purchase a 410 unit right now being it's phasing out. I really can't see them reversing this. Huge companies have too much invested.

The newer units are ridiculously unreliable compared to the older ones

There are so many products like this. The EPA is "used" by the biggest companies to stifle competition. The pesticide rules are crazy and not based on science or use. It's all marketing to stifle competition. The biggest chemical manufacturers will complain and whine but in reality they love the ""rules". The regulations basically make the cost of entry impossible for smaller companies..
I'm sure it's similar in the HVAC and many other industries.

Unfortunately it was a law (AIM Act) and not a regulation. So it will literally take an act of Congress. Probably won’t happen in our lifetime.

Someone just needs to turn up the heat on them, I guess.

You are absolutely correct, and it started back in the early 90's with the "ozone hole" caused by CFC's (R-12 & R-22) which had been used for a long time.
Lo and behold, guess whose patent for R-12 was about to expire, and who was right there waiting with the magic eco-friendly replacement, R-134a?
Which has now been deemed to be a problem of course, and guess what?
It's replacement is literally 6-8 times more expensive.
If you guessed DuPont, you would be correct.
Every time these new requirements for HVAC systems come along, it is because there are lobbyists paying off the people who supposedly represent us.
Follow the money...
ALWAYS! FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the regulation/law took effect long enough ago that the manufacturers have already switched over what they are producing; even if it was reversed, not sure the manufacturers would want to retool their production lines again.
We had a leak in the coils off our upstairs unit at the start of summer. Luckily our HVAC company was able to get a replacement from the manufacturer, but the inventory is dwindling.

Well they wouldn't sell me an old one. This Trane model has been out maybe 2-3 months it seems. Who knows what will happen with it long term.

You damn right. Had a new system installed last summer and they’ve had to come out 4x in the last year to tweak that bastard.
Old unit was installed in 1998 and ran like a dream. Only reason I “upgraded” was because it needed an $800 valve repair and I assumed it was best to go ahead and upgrade.
I regret that decision.

410 units and parts are being phased out over a very long period of time. The units will run out much quicker, particularly when real estate management companies start getting wise and stocking up on 410s. The Freon supply will dwindle over a long period of time. I’d much rather replace with 410 now and pay half the price of a new 454b instead of the alternative. 454b also slightly more flammable
