What is the latest on President Trump doing away with taxes on Social Security?
I recently started drawing mine and it sure would be nice to not have to pay taxes on it.

Same boat, first check next month. With the limits on the credit would be nice to just eliminate the tax on it instead.

As with everything that is done for tax breaks, I never qualify. Income is too high. I also did not get an EV tax break. My EV was too expensive.

Seniors over 65 will be getting an extra deduction. If you and you wife are over 65 it doubles if I remember correctly.

The bill does not eliminate tax on SS but does include a $6,000 deduction for recipients (with income limits). &12,000 for married couples

You paid into it as taxes. It would be justice if you didn't have to pay double taxes for it.

You still pay taxes on it but you get a $6000 tax deduction at the end of the year.

Keep up with the news man

I don't think the elimination of SS taxes will make it through.....look for a reduction, just like the 6000$ deduction for seniors in place until 2028.

But the taxes coming out of the checks just go into the general fund, not back into Social Security. That behemoth is going tits-up eventually. It sucks because I was supposed to eventually get two Social Security checks. Fortunately, I'll have 2 pension checks and some side investments to offset the loss.

What percentage of income being withheld did you go with or did you do a lump sum per check? I started drawing 3 years ago and took a total guess the first year. Had to bump it up a couple percentage the second year to keep from paying in. Sucks, totally sucks that I'm paying income tax on my SS earnings.

I went lump sum, I am already set up for quarterly for other reasons so not a big deal to add that to the mix for me. We will see how it goes and I may adjust later.

Fingers crossed, excel spreadsheet checked daily lol.

Unless they have risen from the dark ages since I started drawing, it's a damn shame you cannot log into your SSA account and make changes. I had to request a form be mailed to me, fill it out and then snail mail it back to SSA.

Can’t log into your ssa account like before. Now you have to log into at either id.me or login.gov and then your ssa account. And yeah once you’ve started medicare a/b and ssa the site is almost useless

Not sure if real…Social Security usually makes you choose one benefit whether that is your work record or a spouse’s.

Pension or mailbox money as I like call it can be a source of multiple income streams if you play the government employment game and move around to different agencies in different retirement systems after reaching the minimum number of years to be vested in their respective retirement system, and then move to another agency with a different retirement system. For example, a police officer gets hired by a local sheriff’s office and works 20 years there and is eligible for a retirement of meager pension of the average of the last 3 years of employment. He retires and starts working at State Police and repeats the process.

Not sure if you could try to do it again since you are now almost 60 years old. But if you wife did the same dance, now there are four checks coming in each month. And if you elect to take the choice of payments for life of you or your spouse, there will always be four checks until both of you hit the grave.

Also, unless you do side work as a Social Security employee, you are not going to be eligible for Social Security.
