Poor people dying from too many calories seems crazy, right? Would probably seem absurd to any of our ancestors

Just something I was thinking about earlier. Any thoughts?

I would think so. However, most of our poor people aren’t really poor compared to all the countries that don’t have the safety nets we do.

Are we the first era of civilization with McDonalds spaced 100 yards apart worldwide?

But still, the lower you get in the economic spectrum, the more likely you are to become morbidly obese

I get that it is because cheap food is high calorie, which again is the inverse of what you would expect. . .historically speaking

They are only poor in net worth

They arent poor compared to any other definition of poor in the history of humanity

Thats because of poor choices which lead to both obesity and being poor

This. Our food offerings and eating culture is abysmal. Eliminate fast food I wouldn’t be opposed

Compare eras avg. life span and be glad you are alive and in a comfortable condition.

Lifespan is 8 year longer now.

Ain't that man granola eating gym rats to skew the numbers by 8 years compared to the 70s.

Totally agree

Define "fast food" and what level of regulation is appropriate.

No, it's fewer "quick early deaths"--workplace accidents, car wrecks, bad births, childhood illnesses, military casualties, etc.

People are now more likely do die slow, older deaths--from cancer, heart disease, COPD, diabetes, etc.

The world is safer now in the short term. That means we have to figure out how to keep ourselves healthy long term.

That statistic is skewed because fewer babies and children die

And fewer women die during child birth

Well ultra processed cheap sugar loaded foods have the average person consuming 150+ pounds of processed sugars per year. We’re also lazy so it’s not shocking honestly

I think I remember reading that in medieval times the rich ate a lot of meat and sweets while the poor ate grains and vegetables. So the rich man had a less healthy diet than the poor man and ended up with gout.

I’ve seen it make a grown man cry. His diet isn’t good and it seems like he gets it a couple times a year. If it hurts as bad as it looks then I would have to put the Little Debbies down to avoid that pain.
