How will kids learn to communicate if their parents are constantly reading/texting?

I'm driving back to DFW from Shreveport and stopped on the way. I'm sitting in a restaurant. Been here 20 minutes. At the same time a young woman of the fat variety has sat down with her three children, which I estimate to be 5, 6 and 7. She has non-stop texted and read texts, scoured the Internet and just completely ignored her children, who have been trying to talk to her, but she does not respond.
This is troubling. These are times to talk and impart wisdom to your kids and teach them how to communicate ideas or to teach them about anything. Old fashioned, I suppose. Even at this moment, I've got my head down, so guilty of being on this device, but I was at several dinners the last few days and the older adults like myself only chatted, no phones out. My wife would smack me if I were doing that during meals.
Perhaps humans will develop and evolve into creatures with hands that grip the phone better and long, curved necks that don't get sore and stiff from constantly looking down and another set of eyes to watch where we're going, too.

I don't care if other parents raise kind to be stupid.
I care about my own.

Maybe she was catching up on some work or personal business.
You should worry about about yourself and not worrying about minor children

We have designated no device time. If they are worn out from playing outside during that time, we will sometimes do movies together, but mom and dad leave their phones in drawers as well.
You absolutely have to be mindful of ensuring lots of communication with the young kids.

Would you rather her text and drive with 3 young children or wait until she got to a restaurant to send the messages?
You have no idea what or who she was texting

Wife(no pics) is sitting by pool on vacation and reading a book. Kids pack a book rather than socks on a beach trip.

That is just the moments that you saw in a restaurant. She probably works full time job, would say has workout regimen (sounds like not the case here!), date night with hubby, is as attentive to the kids at their events (baseball games, etc)…
Parenting quality is heart of this country. Lost it years ago when this Mama’s Mama (& Daddy) decided vacations and cars were more important than making their children feel loved and listened to more than anything else.
Just think, and these are the 2-parent households nowadays.

They don’t. Kids are starting Kindergarten so far behind because parents simply don’t speak, read or interact with their kids anymore. Just sit them in front of screens.
I noticed this with my young nephew and other friends young kids recently.
Meanwhile, 10 years ago my kid was speaking in full, coherent sentences at their age. It’s truly a night and day difference. I blame the screens.

What if they were reading a book on a device?! The horror.

Because some people just weren’t meant to breed much less be a parent to the kids they squeeze out of that floppy vagina.
We have a nonnegotiable rule with our kids, the moment we walk into any restaurant all phones get turned off, including ours.

Probably about 90% are doing it via texting with their sorry parents or posting something on a SM platform for the same sorry parent to stumble up on or be told by a friend or relative.
"Hey John, have you seen what my sweet niece Julie posted on IG .... aaahhh, not really my business but you may want to speak with her about it"

Some parents are lazy.
The world needs them to raise ditch diggers and garbage men. Don’t complain.
