What years to stay away from?
Looking at used ones on FB marketplace.
Tell me the good, bad, and ugly

2014 X with 230k miles on the clock. Still going strong.

Sold my 13 last year with 337k miles on it.
Got new belts and valve cover gaskets at 250k.
No other repairs.
2005-2011 could have issues with the radiator leaking into the transmission... The thing is by this point all of those units are dead.
The 4.0l from nissam coupled with the jatco transmission might be the most reliable midsize suv of the last 30 years. (Yes even more so than the venerable 4.0 from toyota.) It is a shockingly overbuilt and reliable platform.1
I was just telling the wife that when I hit 300k on my truck I'm grabbing another xterra and a sedan to commute in.

Hope you find one. A lifelong friend is an avid trail rider in the Bama foothills. His friend rolled one off the trail. They flipped it over let it sit... cranked it and got it back on the trail with no rear wheels. He's mean AF and there's no BS in him. I've wanted one since he told me about it. Good luck.

I found a 2011 pro4x with 131k on it that I am seriously considering.

Still driving my 2002 with about 235K miles. Had to replace the valve cover gaskets a few years ago but that's about it. The thing is bulletproof.

Isn't the Xterra just a Pathfinder with a different shell on it ?

Let it idle for 15 minutes or so while yoi stand there.
Any issues will appear.
They are insanely overbuilt.
Swap the oil for mobil 0w40. It keeps the chains, guides, and vvti system running great forever.

Negative. Xterra is body on frame. Pathfinder is unibody.
Xterra is based on the alpha platform. Frame is huge. Brakes are huge. Transmission can handle double the power.

Wife had a 2003. One of the best vehicles we have ever owned. Thinking about finding my 17 yr old son a good used one for first vehicle.
