Was wondering if any other OT folks have an incoming freshman at LSU and are having a hard time following LSU’s tuition, fee, and scholarship math?

Number One kiddo was previously awarded (and accepted) $2000 in scholarships directly from LSU. This was alongside his original TOPS allocation. Then the lege jostled TOPS and it turns out Number One is way smarter than his parents and was “Excellence” tier material.

We literally watched his fee bill from LSU change three times while (I guess) LSU tried to figure out what the kid is gonna have to pay.

Yesterday, he gets what LSU has said is the “correct” amount due and it appears that the new TOPS amount is correct but the previously accepted two grand in scholarship money already accepted has disappeared.

Before I lose three hours of my life on the phone - most of it probably being on hold - with LSU…I was wondering in anyone else is seeing anything similar?

If he's that smart make the kid call. Sit there and monitor him. Will be a good learning experience for him early on dealing with aggravating red tape.

You won't. I've called a few times recently and they were very pleasant and helpful. Was on hold about 2 minutes.

If your young adult has not added you as an approved person to speak with, you will be wasting your time calling..

Once they are over 18, you can't speak for them even if you are paying the bills...

(my second one starts next month)

You may have to talk to the bursars office. A few things could have happened. The most likely IMO is that the award hasn't shown back up yet or a refund was triggered by the fee bill reset. Who knows, the system they use for registration and finances is downright archaic.

It is possible to contact them at bursar@lsu.edu if you want to avoid the phone.

are you talking about the Pell Grant and the Pelican Promise?

My daughter got those 2 grants/scholarships plus $3731 from TOPS, along with a few other awards and and stipends....LSU is basically paying her to go to school, live on campus and eat for free with the meal plan

This is the only time in your life you will need a bursar. Savor it.

They are very nice but they will just tell you to log into the students LSU account and and go to the WORKDAY page then click on the Financials Hub and you can few the statement there

It's probably going to change a few times before classes start and all the funds and awards are allocated and updated

They didn't do that with me. They pulled up the fee bill and provided the reasons for why it wasn't what it was supposed to be.

As it should be. There’s no way my parents were making calls and enrolling me in frickin college and calling to figure out fees etc.

They’re adults

I got that. I still called and got an explanation. In fact I called both the Bursar and the Finance numbers and got what I needed.

Agree completely and have actually gone that route prior…when he got his scholarship offers from LSU, ULL, and SELU, the LSU offer was pretty weak comparatively - so, I told him “you need to go have a discussion with someone.” And he did - got an appointment, drove to LSU after class one day, and made his case.

This is a touch different because it’s my money - but may still take your suggestion.

Mine got Scholarship money and a Stipend. Only had to pay for one semester, because of her wanting to attend another football season.

Payed for her to stay in a sorority, till I built her and my other daughter a new house. One was in an apartment, the other in the sorority house.

One has a Masters in Medical Science, the other oversaw a section of Jacobs Engineering.

The one that runs an Engineering firm, she use to work in admissions at LSU.

Good luck with trying to get your problem resolved.
