I’ve push started a car. I think it’s the same principle

Never crank started one but push started my car after the clutch overheated and got stuck.

I’ve started my old Mazda truck a few times by rolling it and popping it into gear.

No, but I used to push start my Acura Integra. Thing would fire up easy with barely a rolling start.

But have you ever watched someone do it with an auto transmission?
Surprisingly it does work, but it's got to be hell on the drivetrain.

Kids these days wont get the thrill of pushing your car down the block before staring it to sneak out and not wake your parents.

Not a car, but I have had to hand crank an old tractor multiple times.

I had a neighbor that had a model A, I helped him get it started once. He did warn me to be very, very careful, it's easy to break an arm if it kicks back.

Back in high school my starter died. Took me 2 weeks to save up the money.

Would drive around until I found an incline to park on.

Roll back, pop the clutch, drive away!

Or having to park on a slope so you could restart your car later. Pop the clutch!

No, but my Grandfather had an old Farmall tractor and we used to start it up front and center with a hand crank.

Dad had restored a 1930 Model A 2 door sedan, it had an electric starter but also the hand crank in the front under the radiator. the hand crank was slotted so it grabbed in the direction for cranking but would slip/release when it started so not to keep the handle spinning. The neighbor had a Model A coupe with the rumble seat, we got to ride in parades all the time.
As a kids we had a blast, fun times back in the late 70's early 80s.
