The 2012 LSU / Alabama game has to be up there. I can't imagine a loss hurting more than that one did walking out of the stadium

Stating the obvious here, but no loss has ever crushed a program more than WVU's loss to Pitt in 2007.

That 2012 game was to flip the momentum of the entire program. Get to even vs Saban I think plus show the NC game was in the past.

In 2012, a top 25 Louisiana Tech lost to Utah State in overtime. Orange Bowl officials were in attendance as Tech was likely heading there with two more wins. Nothing quite like watching orange bowl officials in their bright orange blazers walk out of Joe Aillet knowing you would probably never have another opportunity to get into a BCS bowl.

It’s funny cause we are Louisville and WVU wins away from no SEC team in either 06 or 07 2 big east teams
Crazy world when you look back

This list proves that the new playoff system sucks.
Most of these wins have no or at least greatly diminished meaning since the regular season means so much less now.
Kick Six would be remembered by Aubbies but if this happened during the new system, no biggie.
Alabama would get in the playoffs and probably won another NC.

SOUTH CAROLINA FALLS TO INJURY-RIDDLED NAVY (1984)
South Carolina’s greatest season of the 20th Century included arguably the program’s most crushing defeat to date. The second-ranked Gamecocks needed wins over Navy and Clemson to reach their first national championship but stumbled against a 3-5-1 Navy team in a 38-21 defeat. Without Heisman Trophy candidate Napoleon McCallum and multiple other key players who missed the game due to injury, the Midshipmen pulled off one of the biggests win in their program’s history while dashing the Gamecocks’ hopes of coming out of nowhere to win the national title.
Oof. Not familiar with this one. What the hell happened Cocks?

2017 natty is worse than 2012 for uga IMO but other georgia fans will likely disagree. they are wrong and im right, though

I remember watching that game with family and friends that went to Pitt and WVU. I felt so bad for the WVU folks and had to laugh at how happy the Pitt side was that they just ruined WVU's season.
Funny that Pat McAfee missed two or three field goals in that game. If I remember correctly Pat White and Steve Slaton were injured or dinged up pretty bad in that game as well. Perfect storm of misfortune for WVU.

ARIZONA STATE'S NATIONAL TITLE RUN ENDS IN ROSE BOWL (1997)
This is like the only one that matters on the list in today's CFB climate.
And yes, that Sun Devil loss was crushing for the general populace/CFB fan....people wanted new, the so-called little guy after a 90s full of Miami and Nebraska and FSU.
And ASU would've won the National Title....at the Rose Bowl, in the gloaming, as it should be.

2007 Undefeated Kansas entered the regular-season finale on the verge of playing for its first national championship, but ran into an equally strong Missouri squad, and came a possession short of finishing 12-0. The Jayhawks battled back from a 21-point deficit and had one last chance to move m ahead when the Tigers sacked Heisman candidate Todd Reesing for a game-ending safety. From that day forward, Kansas began a tremendous fall to the bottom of the college football world and just last year snapped a streak of 14-straight losing seasons.
Thanks Mizzou

I do disagree, and in fact before I even clicked on the link I was fully prepared to talk shite about why 2017 shouldn't be there so I'm actually kinda surprised and pleased that the article got it correct.
There is a massive, major difference between the two. 2017 was year 2 of kirby and by the time that game kicked off you could just TELL that our program was different in virtually every way, top to bottom, than it was under richt. So while the finish, although shitty, sucked bad it felt like we were still on the ground floor of big things with kirby. There isn't a soul in that building that thougth this was our only chance at a title with kirby. Now contrast that with 2012. 2008 we had a good albeit underachieving season. 2009 we lost 5 games, 2010 we had a losing record, 2011 we lost 4 games. We were clearly not doing well as a program and a handful of other SEC programs had entirely lapped us at that point. 2012 felt like in the movies when the person is dying and you think they're dead but they spring to life for like 2 more seconds wiht one last breath. That felt like potentially our last real, legti shot to ever win a title with richt and once we lost it seemed apparent we'd never come close again.
I don't see how anyone could experience both losses (I was sitting up close to the field for both btw) and think 2017 was "worse" than 12.

I'm surprised you didn't mention 1998 KSU right away like you usually do. Literally Cinderella losing her slipper in the final seconds.

Ah yes a college football topic on MSB, there's no way I'll get upset.
Nope, nm.

The Ohio State loss to Georgia should be on that list. Not sure how they missed that one.

Sad to say but until the season of 2019 there was nothing that was going to replace the pain of 21-0.
Glad we were able to put that bad memory behind us with a better one.

Yes it did. We weren’t even competitive in the 21-0 game so even though it sucked and ruined what would have been our best season ever, 2012 is way worse because we completely outplayed Bama all game. The atmosphere that game was unlike anything I’ve ever felt/seen/heard at a sporting event and I couldn’t believe my eyes when Yeldon pretty much just walked into the end zone uncontested on the screen pass. Settling for that stupid arse FG that we missed after three straight run plays when Mett, OBJ and Jarvis Landry had carved up Bama all night was retarded and sealed our fate. Thanks Les.
