What are your thoughts on Sloan going into the season?

Last year had a lot of frustrating moments due to playcalling. I still have PTSD from flashbacks of having the ball inside the 10. Sloan has had a year to grow as a playcaller and I'm sure there will be improvement. But what are your expectations?

Expecting the same as last year or worse would be silly. I expect a huge improvement in the offense (not necessarily bc of Sloan) due to Nuss 2nd year as starter & the addition of Alex Atkins to help with the run game

Offense is fine but would like to see him get better at sequencing his calls

There were some execution issues as well.

Unproven, but also did him no favors with terrible run blocking.
Hopefully O-line figured that out this year

I’m hoping he’s improves with more experience, as most people do in their jobs.

Unqualified and never should’ve been promoted.

Make or break year. We look like we did last year in multiple games and we will be searching for a new OC.

I don't know how any fan can accurately judge a playcaller. It's reminiscent of this board screaming for Nate Yeskie to be fired during the baseball season.
ETA - Fans were bitching and moaning about being too predictable and needing to be more creative in short yardage and red zone situations last year. They run a pop pass to Zavion Thomas vs Florida on 4th and 1, Green misses his block, it gets stopped for -3 yards and this board was pissed about "playcalling". Make it make sense.

Overreact much?
If you have PTSD from college football game that you didn’t even play in, you should give up watch sports all together.

He was promoted to get Underwood and failed. Was his fault? No. But that’s why he’s our OC

Exactly, people who literally have no clue, yelling about someone else being “unqualified”…..yet they are unqualified to make such an assessment.
Irony and idiocy…..

I just hope one of the many extra staff members these days can help consult.

I can see it both ways.
On the one hand he took a 1st year starter with turnover problems, and created one of the best offenses in the country statistically. He took a QB who was known to just want to throw deep balls, and turned him into a legitimate pro prospect. With our only deep threat WR hurt most of the year, its remarkable what Nuss was able to do.
On the other hand, finishing last in the SEC in rushing at LSU is a fireable offense, nevermind the fact that he had 4 drafted offensive linemen. You really can't spin that on anything other than coaching, playcalling, and complete lack of creativity in the run game.
So hes a proven great QB coach and developer. Calling plays and developing an offensive identity and scheme is a different skillset. Im not sure he has that skillset. I've chosen to believe he will learn from last year, but if he doesn't then I dont think he is an LSU caliber OC. In that scenario I would love to keep him on as a QB coach, but I understand that's not how this business works.

I think he did the OL a disservice with a terrible running game approach. It was the same OL from the two prior seasons. They weren’t a “bad” run blocking team then. So it stands to reason they didn’t just forget how to block in year 3. He just didn’t adapt the approach to fit a different style QB.
Sloan wasn’t bad last year. But he came far short of maximizing the offense’ potential (or at least scored efficiency). Perhaps that was because he was cautious to make sure to not “mess things up”. But this is maybe the best mix of offensive talent/experience he’ll ever have to work with. If LSU isn’t one of the best offenses in the SEC it will be on him.
The excuses for everyone are out the door this year

If you remove both quarterbacks:
2022: 319 attempts for 1,689, average of 5.29 YPC
2023: 288 attempts for 1,525, average of 5.29 YPC
2024: 331 attempts for 1,551 yards, average of 4.68 YPC
So basically a difference of .6 YPC, not really a huge drop off when you realize defenses didn't have to account for Daniels in 2024.
