Players got a mass text this evening saying they were not being offered contracts and the team was ceasing operations.

Thought they were doing ok?
This feels odd.
Major league rugby was just posting videos about them less than a week ago.
I think their ticket sales were up this year and revenue was good.
They had a lot going on with the community.

I’ll always respect the rugby Gold’s beer drinking abilities. It was an impressive sight

Last month according to their website their revenue was up 30pct. There has to be more to the story

was it on a par with the other teams though?
they alluded to something like this in their end of year message looking "for a permanent home"

I enjoyed going to the games, as I was a former player in hs.
That’s a shame, because NO has a big rugby community. We were really craving a winner. To make the playoffs only once as an OG team in the league was terrible.
Just an observation - They needed an actually pitch to play on, not a 28 year old former NOLA minor league deteriorating baseball stadium. And before that, a high school football stadium.
When you looked around the league, most teams had very nice pitches.
Would like to hear more about what happened.

I know they were exploring Tad Gormley as an option. They had been bought by a PE group and were looking at investing money into Gormley. maybe they decided it wasn’t worth it and pulled the plug. I wonder how this will affect plans for renovating Zephyr Field into a football/rugby/soccer stadium

There was absolutely “changes are coming” messaging at the end of the season
It’s really sad what the state has allowed to happen to Zephyr Field (I refuse to call it anything else)

This is weird, I always felt like the gold had a good following in the city, and games were well attended.
Hopefully someone who has the money can get rugby back here.

The problem is that even with the increased revenue none of the teams in the league are profitable. They're all still holding out hope that once the USA hosts the Rugby World Cup in 2031 that it will generate more interest in the sport of rugby enough to turn the league profitable. But that isn't for another six more years.
It's a shame cause rugby is such a great sport but there just isn't the money in it that's needed. You could probably fund the entire NOLA Gold team for the year with the amount of money they give to one of these NIL football players.

Yes bought by Intervalle Capital in 2024 guess they didn’t think it was worth putting more money into it if the tweets are true. I guess we will find out soon

Yea I found that out after I posted. My mistake.

This has been the beginning of the end for so many good places to work. I've been on the wrong end of that dog and pony show before. A lot depends on the group and their understanding of how a specific type of business needs to operate.
In this case, though, it seems like one of the major issues that faced the company I was involved with (and others I have seen) would not have happened. That is trying to force together two profitable entities that may look like they could work together well, but have significant differences in operational approaches due to industry expectations.
I have no clue on this situation though, just wanted to piss and moan about my negative experience
