Headed there next week for work. Pretty packed work schedule, but will have a few hours (1 morning until 10 am and 1 evening after 7 pm) to play tourist.

Staying 1 night in Lafayette and 2 nights near Stanford.

So if there are a couple can’t miss things to do / places to eat, what would that be?

I will have a rental car.

I'll be there this Thursday for the GD60 concerts all weekend.

There is so much to do. Go to Half Moon Bay and then ride the coast over the Golden Gate bridge and try to make it to Muir Woods. THAT would make your trip. You could probably work out a loop with your stop in Lafayette.

My favorite place is Land’s End park. You can start from the parking lot off of Geary and take the steps down to the baths. There’s a tunnel through Point Lobos and it spits you out on a rock beach. You want to work as low as you can around toward Golden Gate Bridge…in the photo above El Camino is long outcropping, someone way back jackhammered a path out to the end on the GG bridge side. You get all the way out there and there’s a ‘saddle’ in the rock right at the end, you turn around towards downtown and sit down. Perfect view of the GG bridge and all the way down Ocean Beach. That’s the spot, waves and/or seals may put on a show. Keep going around the point after you’re done there. If you see exposed sand down down between the outcroppings you can usually get down to them and have a private beach for a bit.

ETA: you can sort of see the jackhammered path. Looks a little agro, but the wife and I would go out there with wine to watch the sunset onto the bridge (sometimes the sun isn’t even visible on that side of SF until just before it sets, pretty dramatic if you catch it right)…it’s really only sketchy AF the first time. Very solid footing, just not a bunch in some parts.

Those are fairly good distances from actual San Fran. Make sure to plan on layering depending on the areas you will be, it can go from 60 and a cold wind to 85 fairly quickly.

ETA: when we were there earlier this summer literally everyone and anyone said not to drive into the city with anything in your car. Basically leave it unlocked and empty. Fricking nuts the amount of people that told us.

I've been in SF for a week, leaving tomorrow. There's been a marked decrease in street bums especially in financial district. I'm told car smash and grab has also decreased, but I use public transit or Lyft. First-time activity was trying out two restaurants in the Presidio... Army fort converted to mixed use park. Both were great... lots of parking...great views. Highest temperature 75...some days never reached 65.

You can hike up a set of stairs to get there. It could be a little tough on some but definitely doable and unique to SF

Hop over to Sausalito. Can bike it over the golden gate, or just go visit.

I'd say yolo and ride down to Big Sur. Scenic Ride and can enjoy it all. If you don't have enough time then just check out the stuff near there.

The Filbert Steps. A truly fabulous garden on the climb from the bay to Coit Tower. We rented an AirBnb one time that you could only get to by walking those steps. Great time.

I don't know the Bay Area that well but have been 9 or 10 times over the years for different reasons. I looked up Lafayette, looks like a quite a drive into the City, and Stanford is 30 minutes plus into SF under pristine conditions. Honestly, with your time limitations in your post and your locations it will be really hard to do a lot of the cool stuff in/near SF.

Do have 1 rec, while in Stanford go check out the Stanford Dish and trail, great views especially at sunrise or sunset.

Yes. I’m starting to come to that conclusion. When I originally booked this trio, I had more time available, but my schedule kept getting loaded up,

Pay to store it somewhere for a few hours. They know what rentals look like and how they're tagged and they'll smash and grab

Uggh. Not a lot of time.

Play hooky? Stay an extra day?

I used to work in the Bay area for about a year. Amazing city with SO much to do.

If you can figure it out, you have to go to Alcatraz. A close second would be Angel Island. Would take some time.

I used to love to drive over to Sausalito and have dinner and look across the Bay to city. Sausalito offers a diverse and vibrant dining scene ranging from waterfront seafood restaurants to cozy Italian trattorias and casual taco shops. Maybe try The Spinnaker? Book ahead.

heading out to San Francisco in a few hours…65/55 can’t wait. We won’t have a lot of time to get out and about but just being there is great. SF is a world class city

3 concerts in Golden Gate Park and late shows at pier 48 near oracle. Going to be incredible
