Never has there been a larger collection of more demanding, rude, entitled people anywhere. And when the supplies ran out it just got worse.

Don’t feed the bears. They get rowdy when the food runs out.

I can’t help but notice the vehicles pulling up to these types of events. They’re usually nicer than mine and seldom see a clunker.

We used to write our names on our supplies. They were your supplies. Now...no names. It's a pool. To make up for the people who don't buy.

All this was free to any child. Child had to be present (this caused lots of turmoil with parents wanting to collect free shite for their supposed kids at home).

Pens/paper/backpack/markers/crayons/etc.

Parents also getting mad at the food trucks allowed to be there selling stuff, saying it should all be free.

What has happened in society is that people used to go to those supply events because they were truly poor and needed it and it was between buying clothes and food or school supplies. Now it's about getting stuff for free.

What I don't get is that pencils, crayons, glue, paper, pens, erasers, rulers, a compass, protractor, and safety scissors are relatively cheap. How did school supplies become such a big business and more expensive? I find it hard to believe that they have become so expensive school districts can't provide them and parents with a job can't afford them. Can't kids use the ruler used by their older brother? Can't the old man sneak out some pens and note pads from work?

Wife is required to do these things as her organization is a sponsor and that’s one of her roles (community outreach). I got volunteered by her to help.

Was this sponsored by private industry or government?

Combo. My wife’s org (a sponsor) is private. I ended up helping at the local recreation department tent because they needed it.

The money saved will help them purchase some new Jordans for their kids.

I’m sorry but if you can’t buy your kids pencils and Kleenex for their class you are a failure as a parent.

You don’t have to buy a new backpack every year .
