I am old and have my close up readers, but driving I want something to see far. My VA gasses were crap and had distorted lenses. I will go to an optometrist if need but just asking.

You need to go to an optometrist and get your eyes checked.
You shouldn't be driving a 2 ton weapon if you can't see well. You or others could end up hurt or dead.
Once you have a prescription, there are places where you can get discounted prescription eyeglasses.

LOL it's not that bad, I have spent 2 months recently driving around the NW and SW, it's worse at night so I stop and don't drive then.

Obviously you've never been seriously injured in an MVA or had a family member seriously injured.
I hope next time you go for a DL you flunked the eye test.
Stay off the road if you can't see 20/20.

You would be amazed at how many people are legally driving (non-commercial) in the US without near 20/20 vision in even one eye. In fact I don't think any state requires anything better than 20/40 and some are out in the 20/100 range.

Unless it has changed recently, it’s 20/60 or better to drive in the daytime, 20/40 at night.

I don’t understand why we can’t just sit in front of an automated or manual lens selector and choose the best option for ourselves. We should just cut out the middle man (optometrists) unless we have an actual eye issue. You can already buy hearing aids without an Rx. The optometrists must have a better lobby system.

Amazon has some. You pick your correction needs but you need to remember that you are negative in strength instead of positive.
Also, the glasses do not correct for astigmatism. For that you will need an optometrist. You can always try those two pair places with a free eye exam, but watch out for upselling and special coatings and bifocal add ons. Next thing you know you are paying double your anticipated cost for a single pair of glasses. Also, at some of those places the optometrist isn’t even on site, I went to a Stanton Optical and the doctor was remote. It should be easy to get scheduled in at one of those places,
Now trying to schedule a Walmart optometrist is a little more difficult, at the stores around me, the optometrists are there 2 days a week for a few hours. Walmart has really gone down hill on the optometry game, and the glasses are about as expensive as a regular glasses place, but they maybe your only option if your vision insurance is only taken by Walmart.

A lot of Walmarts have optometrists but you will have to do the exam.
And I am sorry Darling, that seeing far thing, those days are probably gone.
Welcome to the old age.

Amazon.
Like the other poster said. Negative strength for near sightedness. I bought some a couple years ago for $20 instead of going to an eye doctor for glasses.

It’s really important to check that with a doctor. As you get older it’s not just about seeing, it’s about catching stuff decades early. Mine caught an elevated risk for glaucoma and gave me drops that’ll hold it off for 20-30 years. Without it, it could have been 5.
Also I’m deaf in one ear but AirPods fixed it without a hearing aid. So maybe Apple could invent glasses that adapt to whatever you’re trying to see. But go to a doctor.

This shite right here. I stopped wearing contacts because the prescription got so strong that I could no longer see my iPhone or Switch while wearing them.
I asked for a weaker script because I didn’t need to see THAT far and it was explained that they could not accommodate my request.
Thanks 44 year age blast. Right in queue.

Can you read exit signs, see vehicles colliding and stop signs?

Yes. They are called ‘binoculars’

Just get a + set of "readers" from Amazon. They're the same as the readers, but the Rx is in the other direction (those are +3). I use a +1.5 to "erase" my prescription (-1.5) when I have my contacts in to be able to see up close again. If I didn't have contacts in, I could see receipts, etc., fine, but then I couldn't drive to wherever I was going.
