First, I think this was a great move for Tech. Better geographical fit. Recruiting fit. Renewed rivalries. C-USA made no sense for anybody. My question for LT fans is what do you expect? One would think with the right coaching staff, they could be a contender in the league. Are you excited about playing your fellow instate Louisiana schools? What are your reasonable expectations?

I am originally from that area but an LSU alum. To me this is a good move for the school, but what happens when the eastern programs are raided by the AAC?!?

I wish Tech the best but still can’t wrap my head around taking tech over liberty and WKU. I would think those two are going to join soon if the belt is serious about holding it together.

Tech has a pretty successful alumni base but the school has done a horrific job drumming up interest over the years. The awkward reality is that ULM should drop to FCS but they seem locked in on derping around.

On a positive note I think tech will win in a lot of sports. I just wonder if it’s too late garnering serious interest from their alumni base. Not sure I’ve seen anyone back home post being at a tech game with a decent crowd.

Idk how this is a negative for Tech. Get to reunite with Southern Miss, ULM and ULL and Arkansas State. Tech playing Sam Houston or WKU or UTEP draws no attention whatsoever. And this is coming from a TXST fan. Tech seemed like the better fit in the SBC anyway

If and when that happens theres already 7 western teams who most likely will not get raided so they'll be able to absorb the loss.

Similar to what happened when Texas state left it took them two weeks.

Wku was most likely to side with the eastern schools on a lot of issues and would bolt asap. The east didn't want liberty for some reason

This move was tremendous for LaTech. It will help save a program that was dying on the vine.

The move doesn’t make a lot of sense for the SBC, already two programs within the state and doesn’t shore up the footprint.

WKU or Middle Tennessee would’ve been better adds for the conference.

If the SBC gets raided by the AAC, I can only see losing two eastern teams at most.

It was the Sun Belt West protecting their voting interest. The east teams wanted WKU because that’s a vote in their camp in the west. The conference would have continued to expand the footprint to the east resulting in massive increase travel costs for the west every time a new team was added.

Tech was a political add for the West.

Sonnie got some incredibly bad breaks last year as well. Tech should have easily won 8-9 games. Not on a crazy if this happens kinda way. We're talking lost on a missed PAT, lost on a Hail Mary, lost in OT what seemed like every week.

I expect Tech to immediately be at the top of the conference in basketball. It's hard to say the same about baseball considering Coastal was just in the National Championship. I do think they'll immediately be a bye level team in the conference tournament. Coastal, Southern Miss, Tech, and ULL most years are going to be your top 4.

As far as football, they have to get Davison, Karl Malone, and their NFL guys to start buying talent. There's just no way around it now. Tech's fees are already equal to their tuition. You can't ask for fees on the level of James Madison. On the other hand, Louisiana/Texas (Tech's main recruiting base) are infinitely better than Virginia/West Virginia/North Carolina/South Carolina. Tech won 6 bowl games in a row under Skip and can easily return to that expectation.

That was one of the most disorganized, discombobulated football teams I watched last year. They should have lost to FCS Nicholls who went 4-8

Tech's defense was the best in the state last year statistically, yes including LSU. 6th in the nation in passing yards given up, 11th in completions, 12th in completion percentage, 12th in total yards, 6th in yards per play. Truly a legit defense.

Now the offense on the other hand...

Was there one? Cumbie started off calling plays, then the OL Coach-who's a great guy btw, big fan of him-then didn't someone else do it at some point?

Correct. Absolutely atrocious football team. Anybody making excuses for that dumpster fire needs their head examined. I’ve seen us bad before (and good for that matter) and this garbage over the last three years is a new low.

Is Cumbie still around solely to save funds to leave CUSA early?

I’m actually bullish on the program long term. Ruston will always be small, but tech and the area are growing and the town gets behind the teams when they’re competent.

Cumbie seems like a really good guy and is in coaching for the right reasons, I’ve met him a handful of times and know quite a few former athletes, but it just seems he’s in over his head as a first time head coach. They need to get a CEO type in there that knows how to program build. Still kind of crazy they ran Holtz out of town.
