What are some movies that changed you or left a permanent impact on you? Any genre ... drama, thriller, horror, crime, etc...? What are some that left a deep impact on you?

Schinder's List - harrowing and gut wrenching...I remember leaving the theater in silence

Jaws - I didn't see it in 1975, but when I saw it approximately 10 or so years later, I recall not getting in the ocean that year on a trip to see some relatives in Virginia.

It's a Wonderful Life - I watch it during Christmastime every year. Just a great story all around that is all too real at times.

The Truman Show.

Couldn’t shake the feeling that I was actually the star of a secret TV show and there were hidden cameras watching everything I did.

The latter ended up being true.

Saving Private Ryan. Prior to this, most if not all war movies show death as a flop by the actor and dead. SPR was as graphic as war could be, I left the theater stunned. Now I watch it every Memorial Day.

If you grew up with a shitty father as I did, it's impossible for this to not affect you

Blood Diamond - when Leo's watching the sun set on his life and says "I'm right where I'm supposed to be". I think about that scene all the time.

Big Fish - I think all men want to live an extraordinary life, travel the world, and be someone important. But more importantly, we want to be remembered.

Blade Runner - Tears in rain scene. Again, Rutger Hauer's character wants to be remembered.

Yeah, the ending of SPR. Showed the human side of war and how time doesn't fade the memories even if it does fade the soldier.

American Sniper. I had a vague idea, knowing of the story from the news, of how it ends, but the manner in which the events unfolded... wow. I got the feeling, sitting in the theatre, most in the audience didn't. One of the more surreal and somber endings to a movie I've experienced in my life.

Dear Zachary was pretty traumatic

The Godfather just blew me away with how beautiful and perfectly made it was

Wall-E is a wildly different category of movie but might also be perfectly made (and uncomfortably prescient)
