Barcelona - 1 day

Staying a day before an 11 day Med cruise in Oct. Rec’s on what to do. Thinking Basicalla for sure. Any hotel/ restaurant recs near Basilica?

I think Sagrada Familia has to be at the top of the list. We really enjoyed a performance at the Palace of Catalan Music. And definitely recommend these places (neither is close to the basilica and we didn’t eat at Salts):

Sagrada Familia is probably the biggest tourist draw in the city, so get your tickets ahead of time and plan a few hours. Worth it to get an extra ticket to go up in one of the towers.
Lots of folks cruise out of Barcelona so they're only there for a day or so, but the best advice is to spend an extra day or two as a destination itself. we were there for five days last year. The Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, Barcelonetta, just strolling around aimlessly, countless magnificent buildings and churches, Park Guell...there's just too much to see.
And have a meal at one of the many tapas bars.

If you are able bodied, the Gaudi Bike Tour is a great way to see a bunch of the city in a few hours. The church is at the end of the tour and includes tickets

Definitely see the incredible Gaudi basilica but I would rather stay at a hotel in the old town, either El Born or the Gothic Quarter. The Old Town is a much more atmospheric neighborhood than the area around the basilica and is closer to the cruise ship.
We stayed at what is now the Hotel Borneta.
For one day I would see the basilica (get a timed ticket in advance) then stroll around the streets and alleys of Old town and have dinner at Tapeo, an upscale gourmet tapas bar a few blocks from the hotel.

I stayed at the Meridian Barca the last time. It's on the path that leads to the beach, and is an easy walk to Sagrada Familia, the train station, and a number of bus stops. The breakfast spread is nice, and there are a ton of pubs/shops on the street leading to the beach.
In the gothic quarter there is a School of Chocolate that has a mini (20 minutes) museum that has all kind of intricately carved/molded chocolates. Like an 18" Game of Thrones dragon.

Sagrada is a MUST! Get tickets first thing in the morning because the sun comes in the windows and it’s just amazing. We also went to the market and just walked around. We did same thing last year. Also it’s easy to take cab to the cruise port. We stayed at The Monument hotel, it was great. They have a Michelin star restaurant. Barcelona also has some of the best cocktail bars in the world.

I would do Sagrada but skip the tower, between waits for slotted time to enter the tower then waits in the line to get up I bet it added 1.5 hours to the trip. With one day in Barcelona, that is wasted time to see a city skyline through some small openings in stone.
I highly recommend taking time to walk through La Boqueria Market on Las Ramblas. It ranks as one of the top food markets in Europe and there is lots of fresh and prepared food to see and eat. Well worth the stop.

Agreed….. With one day I’d hit the Sagrada Familia, one of the Gaudi houses and take in the Ramblas market. A great but small taste of Barca.
