Need to enjoy Nussmeier because college football may never see another one!

Since the introduction of NIL and the transfer portal, it's all about chasing the money, and the days of talented players patiently waiting their turn is pretty much extinct. Nuss will be entering his fourth year at LSU, despite sitting behind Daniels for two years, a transfer Kelly brought in.
I think it's safe to say most players, with any amount of talent, would have jumped ship and headed for greener pastures, but Nuss stayed focused on one day becoming the starting QB at LSU, despite all the moving parts around him. Tiger fans need to enjoy the ride because we may never see another talented QB shun the opportunity to leave for another program and forgo an opportunity to go the NFL to play for his dream school.
The best part is he's a Louisiana boy and we all get the privilege to watch him one more year as the starting QB for LSU for the second consecutive year! Oh yeah, he also recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend and recent LSU grad Ella Springfield!
We need to enjoy it because we may never see another one! Geaux Tigers!

Born in Louisiana, his mom is an Hebert, but he grew up all over the place. Went to High School in Texas. I am not sure that doesn't even make it better. He's seen what else is out there and still chose to come to and stay at LSU.

No doubt it is getting more and more rare.

Correct.

Think about the fact we had Jamarcus Russel, Matt Flynn, and Ryan Periloux all on one team…you’ll never see that kind of qb talent on one roster again. I know Periloux didn’t pan out, but he was an elite recruit.

If he is entering his fifth year, that makes his commitment to LSU even more impressive.

Yes. If you recall, at the end of the 2021 season, LSU had a bowl game to play, and Nuss (in consultation with LSU coaches) opted to sit it out to retain his redshirt option. A lot of folks here had some consternation about that decision. Pretty sure most of those folks are now happy with that decision. now.

He could have redshirted in 22 or 23 too, mingy. It wasn't that heroic.

Not heroic, but smart and understandable. Why burn an entire year of eligibility to play in a meaningless bowl game on a team that had an interim coach and countless players sitting out.
At the end of the day you have to put your self in the best position to further your career and that very well could have been a multi-million dollar decision.

chest
competitiveness
not letting your team down
perhaps propel you into a starting job the next year

You can say the same thing about not transferring when JD got here.
You can say the same about JD and Burrow for leaving their teams and transferring to LSU.
They all ultimately did what was best for them and it worked out in LSU's favor.

Joe Burrow would have never sat out that game. Maybe JD would have. Not sure what that has to do with transferring.

Transferring is a decision to put your career in the best position and it's putting self before team. JD left as a starter at AZ. Isn't that letting the team down. A lot of his teammates straight up said it was. You never criticized him or said he had no chest. Not sure why. Leaving your team as a starter forever is monumentally worse than sitting out a game don't you think?

starters transfer all the time for better opportunities. Im not sure how the equates to preserving a redshirt by not playing and forcing your team to play a WR at QB. I will never understand that

Unless he had a crystal ball, he didn't know if he would be needed; in fact, it looked like he would, Daniels wasn't even in the portal yet.. Plus, he played in 5 regular games in 22 & 23.
And it wasn't heroic, it was simply a decision made by the staff and Nuss to preserve a redshirt because who could know how much he would be needed in either year until after Daniels got to LSU. Why not take it in a lost season?
ETA: Under the current rules, he could have played and not lost his redshirt.
