That executive order will be nothing but show.

No matter what side of the political isle or NIL debate you fall on, I’d hope that we all could agree that nobody’s compensation should be limited by the damn federal government unless you work for them.

I miss the days when conservatives truly believed that more government involvement was generally a bad idea.

Agreed.

Never a fan of the government getting involved in these situations. I imagine this could also present a big anti-trust issue when monopolized this way.

I agree, which is why the issue is tricky because the way its going currently is clearly also problematic.

There are industries where the fed effectively does limit earning potential when it comes to federal contracts and things in the realm of the public good like Ag products and vaccines.

Is the competitiveness of a popular sport "public good"? IDK. In a cynical "bread and circuses" sense I guess so, from the perspective of the government at least.

I think it also complicates things that many of these NIL deals aren't anything about N, I, or L, its just about getting a guy to play for your team. Paying for a massage with a wink and a nudge will still get you arrested if the place gets raided mid-tug.

Neither party (the players or schools) will do what is in the best interest of the other voluntarily. The big schools with the most pull are only sort of fine with the current model because they are at an advantage. If they could change to a fixed income model they would in a heartbeat. The players want the current insanity to continue.

You kind of need a third party arbitrator in this scenario, which would probably be the government unfortunately. In an ideal scenario they set up some kind of sustainable system and just get out of the way after that, but we all know that isn't what usually happens when it comes to the government.
