I have a little offshoot area of my yard that I want to convert in-to a seating area and would like to plant a tree to eventually provide shade the the area.

Want something that doesn't have a width of more than about 20 ft and ideally evergreen, although open to others (summer red maple?) if they're the right size.

Any suggestions?

loquat. Beautiful dark green leaves, evergreen, and will make fruit for you to eat. If you were in south LA I’d give you as many as you want

Once mature it’s a standout yard tree

How does one take you up on this?

I have a vacant lot nearby and have been debating trying to plant a few in it!

Will never survive in Houston, unless in almost complete shade. Even then, good luck

This an open invite? I might text you about the work that was done on your brick floors.... if that's cool.

I’ve seen pictures of a central Texas native I’d love to find out more about called Lacey Oak. They look a beautiful blue-green, are evergreen, and the size you describe. There’s a “Natives of Texas” nursery in Houston you could check with.

I have 4 in my yard in dallas. They are great trees, very drought tolerant and hold their leaves until about January up here but they don't have much fall color. They do put out many seedlings which I like as I dig them up, pot them for a year and give them away to friends. They do get about 30' tall x 30' wide up here so maybe a bit larger in Houston

Any pics of mature in your yard? Looking online and every pic looks like a different tree…

I’m not far and may take you up as well…
