ESPN Article on Kelly

QUOTE 1
"I've never really been, 'It's all or nothing,'" Kelly says. "This year is a change in our philosophy, in that we have to focus on Clemson. Our focus has to be playing our very best in that first week."
QUOTE 2
Kelly contended for an SEC title in Year 1 in 2022 with young upstart quarterback (and future Heisman Trophy winner) Jayden Daniels, but he thinks that might have created unreasonable outside expectations for his program. Kelly says that season did not change the trajectory of the program under his leadership.
"Those are the people that don't have enough information," Kelly says. "They're just reacting emotionally, and you're going to have that, and that's great. We love that passion. With that passion comes unrealistic thoughts
I see now, I've just been an over emotional dumbass with unrealistic thoughts of LSU football
Suddenly CBK acknowledges that he has developed a sense of urgency. There is a warm sensation under his seat.

This man is smart, motivated and focused. Big season ahead

I think we will know after 1 quarter against Clemson how the season will play out

So much chatter about this ‘25 opener.
Where’s the fire been for the previous openers….

If we look unprepared to even start the game, you may be right.

I saw an interview that Kelly put Clemson tiger paws up in the LSU locker room. That's an interesting motivational tactic.

Hopefully I’m wrong and history won’t repeat itself but Brian Kelly’s team has shown little or no improvement over the course of a season if anything they regressed

Why would you not be focused to play your very best on week 1 in the first place?? Thing is CBK does not have his team ready the last 3 years. Sounds like that has changed this year, better hope so or Clemson will blow us out.

I think he’s done a good job adapting to the massive changes in recruiting the last couple of years. LSU is in a good spot moving forward.
As far as the openers, I think he truly believed that he would be able to run the ball at will when needed. We found out that was not the identity of that O line. Should he have been more in tune with that during the game? Maybe so. I’m talking about the 3 and out late in the game.

Bk has laid out a methodical, calculated blue print to achieve mediocrity.

BK knows he blew a chance in 2023 with Daniels and Co. That was the best offense he ever had and may ever have. If LSU just had an average defense that team likely makes the CFP...possibly even winning the NC.
This year he has maybe the second best QB he's ever had...and he knows it. He's looking at this season almost in a "now or never" type of manner. The evidence of that was LSU's activity in the transfer portal. They went to the donors with a big push to go "all in" this year. IMO, that trickled down to other sports. It's why LSU didn't make a coaching change in men's basketball...despite an awful 3 years stretch. It's why they never considered any type of change in softball...despite some disappointing postseason results. Just about every financial resource they had was put into the football program and this upcoming season.
You can also see it in BK's annoyance of having to open on the road @ Clemson. In such an "all in" season, he's aggravated LSU has to take such a big risk out of the gate that could critically hamper LSU's CFP chances when a win vs. The Citadel would essentially have the same effect as a win @ Clemson (It's all about the overall record...not who you beat to get it). He made it clear in a recent interview he did NOT schedule the game @ Clemson and said, without saying, "don't blame me for the dumb schedule"

And yet, in spite of being smack in the middle of covering up for sexual assault, the man who has scheduled LSU into 4 straight 0-1 starts (the SEC made the 2020 Covid schedule) still has a job.
