A little too hot already today but looking for somewhere accessible for tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. He doesn't care what we're catching, just wants to fish and ive got the morning off.
Where are some places within a 30-40 minute drive?
Thanks. He's a good kid.

Got any padnuhs with subdivision ponds? My lil boy wears out the bream on crickets and has a blast. He’ll catch some lil bass on beetle spins too.

Not that I know of, unfortunately

Got 2 spots in the Baker area where nobody messes with you that I like. I just catch and release because I’m sure the water isn’t great, but he’ll catch small bass and panfish with chartreuse tube jigs and beetle spins or any live bait under a cork.
1. Small canal off Lavey lane close to 19.
I park by Baskin Robbins and walk towards the subdivision. You’ll be fishing behind the shopping center near the loading areas.
2. Monte Sano canal at the intersection of Blount road and Gibbens Road. Just pull off the road and fish both sides of Blount. Good luck and let us know how he does.

BREC has ponds at many of their parks...The Burbank Park where the soccer fields are, is a good one...

Okay. Dug some old rods out of the shed and got them restrung. Took my little buddy to get his first tackle box and some gear and some worms.
He's so excited and apparently I am the "best dad ever.".
Gonna try Burbank tomorrow morning because it's fairly close.
May try baker another day. There's a small pond on family land in Dutch town we used to tear the bream up in but it hasn't been fished in years. Don't know if there's any left.
May try down by Lamar Dixon too.
Thanks yall. I don't care what anyone says yall baws are solid.

If burbank isnt getting bit, head to the Hilltop Arboretum on Highland (its very close to burbank soccer park). It has a small pond with some nice sized bluegill - you just cant keep anything.

You can also try this. If you haven't been before its on Flannery Road. You can actually keep a few fish per angler.

Waddell is good for really young kids because they will probably catch something. But they are all going to be small fry.
OP: You can try Azalea Lake. Park over on Lake Iris at the lot. If it is just you and your son, no one will bother you.
If you are OK paying for access you can call "The Secret Fishing Hole" in Slaughter. They stock their ponds with bass and limit access to only a few people a day. Your son will definitely catch some bass (or bream if that's what you are after). I haven't been in years, but we caught a bunch the couple of times we went. I had to look up their number. It looks like its: 225-658-4953 or 225-938-4647

Do they really allow fishing at the Hilltop Arboretum? I’ve been there and thought I would really like to try fishing there but didn’t think they would allow it.

If you don't mind some light trespassing the apartment complex on the other side of I-10 from Tanger has some nice sacalait. Head all the way to the back where there is parking near the NW tip of the pond and walk parallel to the interstate.

It's been years but we've pulled some nice size cats out of the East pond. You just have to deal with decent sized snapping turtles.
The West side of the bass pond has tree cover so you can catch shade until noonish.

Is that the pond behind Taco Bell? I know a guy who has a 7+ pound bass on his wall from there in 1991.

Yeah, Waddell is different than it used to be. I go at least 1 time a month with my young nephew when I watch him. He is young enough that he is excited to catch anything. He will catch fingerlings left and right from the dock.
The trees on the bass pond are on the west side. It's in the sun from when they open at 7:30 until about 3ish - and its pretty hot by 10am. You can catch some shade at points in the day at the very northwest corner. The trees on the catfish pond are on the east side and you get a good bit of shade on that side most of the day.
They have also started clearing trees out there. Not sure what they are planning on doing. But there has been tons of activity over there.

Nicholson Lakes has some big bass and Grand Lakes as tons of fish. There is a 3 foot right of way around Nicholson Lakes so once you get to the lake you can walk all the way around it and fish.
