Hey folks
Unfortunately really looking to stop during this 5 hour stretch (basically coming from 10 hours away in the midst of a lot of driving this month). Any recs on an actual good place to go with my wife. I am not optimistic

Decent chain hotels in Tuscaloosa, Meridian and Hattiesburg. That’s all that comes to mind.

There are the casinos in Philadelphia, MS but that’s a good ways off the interstate.

Laurel, MS? I’ve never stopped there, but it has intrigued me every time I’ve driven through. I see signs for a museum that looks interesting. And some couple are making bank renovating homes for one of the house porn networks, so it must have a good stock of decent older homes.

Tuscaloosa or Laurel are your best bets. Tuscaloosa has some nice dinner options and obviously you can kill a half afternoon wandering around college town pretty easily. Laurel if your wife is into HGTV’s Home Town only.

If you are not stopping in New Orleans, why are you going through New Orleans?

Yeah live in Nola. Just didnt want to stop in Birmingham (wanted to get farther on my way home to NOLA) from farther north

Tuscaloosa may just do it… wish it were farther from Birmingham, but I feel like if I get to Laurel, I might as well just finish the trip home to NOLA. Thanks for the Tuscaloosa thought… never been, even as a Tiger fan

Laurel MS...has a nice little downtown and some good places to eat.

Meridian has a kind of a cool downtown and a historic hotel right in the middle. We stayed there for a night on a road trip and had a nice visit.

Between Tuscaloosa and Laurel, I think your only option is Meridian. I have not stayed overnight there but have heard good things about the Threefoot hotel. And I had a nice meal at Weismann’s the last time I was over there for work. I’ve always meant to go to the Jimmie Rogers museum but have never took the time.
If you decide Tuscaloosa is far enough, any of the hotels downtown are safe, clean, and relatively inexpensive (unless there is something big happening on campus). Dinner at Archibalds (the one on MLK in Northport) or DePalma’s. Breakfast at the Waysider or City Cafe.
Safe travels.

Thanks everyone… I think Threefoot in Meridian will be the winner!

there’s a good brewery right around the corner from threefoot. Also, the hotel is on a downtown block so you’ll have to park on the street or in a pay lot. We parked right across the street no problem
