I'm sure I'm going to get a good roasting here, but here we go anyway...

I spend everyday in tennis shoes. Lots of work outside, constantly moving, sweat A LOT. I have never had real issues with athletes foot, even when I was playing organized sports in high school and college where it would have been more prevalent, until now. I am struggling and need some help. Have used some of the creams and it gets rid of the issues temporarily, however it takes a week or more. If you've never experienced it, a week of this infernal itch is a lifetime. Happy to hear any suggestions, aside from cutting them off or have you tried tuning them off and back on again...

cheers,

Itchy footed fella

Use gold bond in your shoes, it helps with the moisture. Soak your feet in apple cider vinegar and warm water.

Try tennis sandals instead. Oh and be sure to keep your socks in the drawer.

Once you get the issue solved put a lot more effort going forward to wash your feet with a cloth during the shower and especially in between your toes. Then making sure to dry them well before putting on fresh socks. If you are sweating all day its not a bad move to switch socks at half day and make sure the insides of your shoes dry thoroughly over night.

Better shoes, better socks and gold bond.

100% thin wool socks. Real wool. Not a blend. Cotton traps and hold way more moisture. Stay away from plastics/nylons.

Couple suggestions

Get rid of all your old socks- start over & disinfect shoes everyday or get new shoes.

I also would soak my feet every night when mine would flare up with warm water/epsom salt/ Listerine Mouthwash for about 15-20 minutes.

Good luck

- You should have at least two pairs of shoes for work (a 3rd pair would be even better). Rotate every day so each pair can fully dry out and minimize fungal growth. Assuming you currently have one pair now and you're sweating all day, your one pair is probably barely drying out overnight and is harboring a ton of fungus, which is re-irritating your feet on a daily basis.

- Once you're done with work, make an effort to be barefoot as much as possible to let your feet air out naturally and stay dry.

A few points others said worth repeating...

- In the short term, consider extra changes of socks during the day to keep your feet dry.

- Use foot powder for your feet every day AND for your 2nd pair of shoes that aren't in use. I don't know the difference between medicated powders like Gold Bond, Dr. Scholls, or other brands, or unmedicated powders, so defer to other posters' opinions.

- More diligent washing between toes, etc.

In summary, keep your feet clean and dry and preferably barefoot as much as possible (with the obvious exception of keeping shoes on at work for safety).

I got athletes foot twice in my life and both times was because catching it from another person. Once was from bowling shoes.. and the other was sleeping in a bed that my brother had slept in and I didn't change the sheets... I don't wish that on my worst enemy... I don't remember how I got rid of it.. Maybe some OTC medication like Lotrimin AF..

As another poster stated wool socks. Good ones are not cheap, but they are well worth it. I do not have athlete's feet. However, I have worn wool socks for several years. I work outside and sweat a lot. Under normal weather conditions my feet are never wet.

I didn’t get athletes foot until I lived in Broussard Hall at LSU in 1995 and 1996.

Lotrimin AF was the only thing that worked for me and I fought AF for almost a year.

Rotten fight but I won.

Lotrimin AF.
