Rays scout was named Benny Latino?
That sounds like a fake name used in one of those Disney Channel movies that you could find on a Tuesday night over 20 years ago.

Kid never had a chance in life. Cool but sad story.

Great dude and really good at his job. There wasn’t a half decent player in south Louisiana that Benny didn’t know about.

Toe Nash and Josh Hamilton were mythical figures in the early 2000’s.
Both had rumors and stories floating around about their generational raw talent and athletic ability. Both were in the expansion Devil Rays organization, and neither could stay out of trouble long enough to make it through a minor league season. Their stories, especially Toe Nash, seemed fake.
Toe Nash disappeared forever from baseball without ever really appearing.
Josh Hamilton also disappeared, and was completely out of baseball by the time he was a 21-yo, but his talent was too great to keep him out forever.

Isn’t that the name of the really good kid in The Sandlot who made it to the majors?

Latino put the Rays on a lot of LA kids back in the day. Joey Gathright & Chad Gaudin were two of them.

Reid Brignac!

Reid was obviously a dude. The other two were hardly pro commodities.
Reid was prob the best HS SS I’ve seen in LA last few decades. Great player

Piece of shite from Hammond. Dude would bunt with a man on first, forcing a throw two first and have the baserunner go to second and skip third base cutting through the infield when there were only two umps.
This was in a 17-18 Dizzy Dean State championship Tournament.
