The state thought BR was moving north BR.

Then it was too late to change after it was approved in 1989.

The bridge see 100k vehicles a year while i10 see that in a week

I googled mapped that bridge and it is out in the middle of no where. All the help baton rouge needs with traffic and this was a solution at the time. This is so Louisiana.

4 cents a gallon tax on gas to build a bridge sounds fine. Too bad 5 billion wouldn't build a footbridge anymore

Burl Cain.

Anything anyone tells you otherwise misses the mark on how powerful and how one-minded he was. He gave zero fricks about the state and forced all money into that bridge.

Since 1989...bullshite. if that were the case the Comite bypass would be done and an afterthought. The Burbank loop was approved before 1989 and never completed. Such a horseshite excuse.

Cain needed to do away with the ferry and connect the poor parishes so he could keep cheap labor. He didnt give two fricks about Louisiana and proved so when he left.

Good riddance. Wish he wouldn't have fricked BR.

Shreveport Country Club thought the same too in 1909 well over a century ago. They thought rich Shreveport would move West. It didn't.

They had a couple of powerful politicians from that area back in the day when it was approved.

Simple Google search.

The legislature passed it.

Remember, no one wanted a Baton Rouge bridge in the 90s. Drove Kip nuts.

You should probably research these topics before you make an arse out of yourself.

Easy to build a bridge that only has barge traffic under it. Ship traffic, different story.

TIMED Project

Any one know how much is left to pay on those bonds, or did they scheme the bonds to where they are almost perpetual, and we mainly pay just the interest on them and get stuck paying them for decades similarly like the Causeway but there is a toll involved instead of a tax.

The reason, I say this is that Louisiana has some major infrastructure needs and could use that 4 cents or an additional 4 or more cents to fund other projects in the state.

It’s not like the Audubon Bridge delayed or prevented a Baton Rouge bridge. BR would still be the same shitshow whether or not the Audubon Bridge had been built.

So be thankful that there is one place in this state that actually has modern infrastructure in place before it’s critically needed instead of 25 years after it was needed.

You talking about the one that goes St. Francisville? I know a dude who lives in New Roads and works at the Nuclear plant right across the river. He told me if he sees 3 vehicles on the opposite side, either going to or leaving work, its busier than usual. This state is bass ackwards.

Priority wise you are correct. But practically speaking Audubon was very simple. There were already roads on either side of the river since there was a functioning ferry prior to the bridge being built. All they had to do was build a bridge and connect it to Hwy 10 on either side. For the BR bridge there will need to be a lot more property obtained and more road construction to connect a new bridge to existing main thoroughfares.

It was included in the TIMED program for political reasons, but yes that bridge is much cheaper to build than bridges serving BR South because they have to be tower to allow ocean going ships to pass.

Not quite so fast (pun intended). The ferry was much north of Audubon, starting on the New Roads side coming off Ferry Road and running NNE across the river to near Bayou Sara under St. Francisville itself.

Source: I took that ferry many times back in the 80's.
