This was on in the background and watched the last hour of it, had been years since I had watched it.

Movie is horrifically bad. How the hell did they green light that final edit of the film and release it?

It’s shocking how terrible that movie is.

The marionette Palpatine is so bad I can’t quantify it.

My pet theory is the whole trilogy was written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone just for the material

It was JJ Abrams’s effort to undo what Rian Johnson did. Unfortunately it was so fricked there really was no recovery.

TLJ doomed it and SW for a decade plus at this point

Didn't matter how off the reservation Last Jedi was, JJ just casually coming up with "oh Palpatine's back" was not needed and is colossally more stupid than anything that Rian Johnson did.

People who shite on Rian for TLJ and not on JJ for Rise are a bunch of baby back simps.

I mean...Johnson didn't leave him with much choice. Snoke was unequivocally killed off and Kylo Ren was so emasculated by a vision of Luke Skywalker at the end of that film there was absolutely no way he was going to be the main antagonist in the final film.

JJ bringing Palpatine back was more of a middle finger to the OT than anything Rian did.

TLJ was the biggest piece of shite movie relative to its space that people now come to defend the subverting expectations. ROS was a complete piece of shite trying to fix TLJ.

JJ Abrams owes a lot of other people for his career.

Star Wars as a movie franchise died when The Last Jedi was released. Nothing could fix or destroy it more than that abomination.

I've rewatched the Rise of Skywaler once for whatever reason. I refuse to ever rewatch TLJ. I audibly laughed in the theater over how stupid some of it was.

I’m not defending TLJ… it was an awful movie.

Rise of Skywalket is the worst movie

It appears Disney’s strategy with the trilogy was “These fricking idiots will pay to see any piece of shite, as long as we slap ‘Star Wars’ on it.”

You shite on JJ, and rightfully so, but fail to mention that the reason ROS was so bad was because TLJ fricked any attempt at a storyline that JJ set up in TFA. Bringing back Palpatine was retarded but killing off the main villain in the 2nd fricking movie was vastly more retarded.

Sure JJ had to fix some things… doesn’t mean his only of doing that was bringing back Palpatine.

It was a terrible choice that made the movie and Star Wars franchise as a whole non-sensical

Well maybe he wouldn't have had to bring back Palpatine if the main villain didn't get cut in half in the 2nd movie.

Put me down in the camp that thinks RoS isn’t bad, and almost kinda good/enjoyable for having to adjust to the absurdities of TLJ.

Also, I’ve said this before but TLJ isn’t as bad as most people say it is. If you fix just a few things about it, it could’ve been really good. But it’s at least watchable for me and when I’ve rewatched it more recently, even though I don’t like some of the directions it went in, it’s not near as bad as I used to think it was.

The biggest issue I have is Disney taking it away from JJ Abrams in the first place. I think TFA is actually really good. People hate on its similarities to the OG Star Wars, but I think it’s a solid homage but different enough to feel new while acknowledging the past. I thought it was a great intro to a new trilogy (despite some gripes). Had they left JJ have the entire trilogy I think he could’ve put a good story together that entertained about as much as a “new trilogy” could have. But since they didn’t do that we got a good first movie, a watchable but WTF second movie, and a decent third movie and it doesn’t flow as well as it should have.

Just my $0.02.

They backed themselves into a corner with absolutely no logical way to conclude anything so they had to just completely make bullshite up.

No IP has ever been as mismanaged.

Sorta. It was still shite and didn't make any sense whatsoever, but it's not like he was left with much choice. Who was going to be the main antagonist in the final film of the trilogy if not an old foe?

1. Snoke - He was cut in half and very obviously dead at the end of Last Jedi.
2. Kylo Ren - He was beaten in a lightsaber duel by Rey at the end of Force Awakens and once again by a Force-projected Luke Skywalker at the end of Last Jedi.
3. General Hux - Maybe if he hadn't been cucked by everyone and their mother in Last Jedi he would have been a viable option. But that ship sailed.

So who then other than an old foe like Palpatine? Rian Johnson limited Abrams's options dramatically by the events of Episode VIII.
