Is it weird for a school to have such icey relationships with former successful coaches?

At the gym this morning discussing the naming of the field at Tiger Stadium. It occurred to me that none of the last 3 National Champion coaches are a good fit.

Coach O: Buyout, lawsuit, general behavior.

Les Miles: Sexual Harassment

Nick Saban: Lol.

Is it normal across schools to have such conflicted relationships with their former successful coaches? Or is this just a random LSU thing.

Most schools don't have 3 recent living National champion coaches so maybe this is just the price of success.

Secondarily: Who then should we name the field after when they inevitably cave and print a name on it? I settled on either Daniels/Burrow, whoever is willing to cough over more for the honor.

depends on the coach

Larry Coker and Miami
Chizik and Auburn
Fisher and FSU

If you think Jayden Daniels is even remotely in the conversation for being the one chosen you are incredibly naive. If it ever happens it would probably be Gordon McKernan Field like the jersey patch will be this year.

It won't be named as an honorarium for a former coach, but may be named after a local ambulance chaser who gives TAF a barge full of cash.

The reason the coaches leave would play a major role in how they are viewed. Coach O & Miles are self-explanatory. But what if Saban became the next great HC in the NFL, he would still be revered by the LSU faithful. Hell, had he gone to just about any non-SEC school, most would still look fondly on him. But because he went to an SECw school and had more success there than he did here; it's an icy relationship

If you have to name it:

In the current environment, It’s more likely that it called “Caesar’s Tiger Stadium” than it is to be named after a coach

Technically, it is not. Death Valley is more of a nickname for Tiger Stadium.

A valley is a low area of land between mountains. Field is the low area stadium is mountains. So yes technically the field is part of Death Valley.

Unless a coach wins a ton and retires on his own accord that's just the way it is EVERYWHERE.

Here's an example. Look at Kentucky basketball. They don't have great relationships with their last three national championship coaches.

Pitino wins the 1996 NC, leaves to coach the Celtics, and later returns to the college ranks coaching Louisville. Tubby Smith followed Pitino, won the 1998 NC and a few down years later resigned to become the head coach at Minnesota. Kentucky's latest NC head coach, Calipari, is now the coach at Arkansas.

shite happens.

This was just rumors......he was never even sued.

I have a nasty feeling some people just made it up and told tales just because they did not like Les.
