Going back a while, I can't remember any athlete committing from the 850 area code.

Blake Dean is from Fort Walton Beach.

Any others?

I don't know if he moved from Ft Walton Beach, but he went to Crestview High, where i graduated from.

ETA Just saw he's from FWB, guess he got a waiver to play at Crestview? My best friend's family were big into baseball and they knew I was an LSU fan, so I heard all about Blake while he was there.

I assumed Pensacola was more Florida State territory. I remember us losing out on Trent Richardson to Bama when we thought we had him. He played at escambia high like Emmitt Smith.

I have it circled here. According to the wiki

quote:

As is the case with the other eight U.S. states that have panhandles, the geographic meaning of the term is inexact and elastic. References to the Florida panhandle always include the ten counties west of the Apalachicola River, a natural geographic boundary, which was the historic dividing line between the British colonies of West Florida and East Florida. These western counties also lie in the Central Time Zone (with the exception of Gulf County, which is divided between the Eastern and Central Time zones), while the rest of the state is in the Eastern Time Zone. References to the panhandle may also include some or all of eleven counties immediately east of the Apalachicola known as the Big Bend region, along the curve of Apalachee Bay.

So I guess it's fluid. I've always considered it panhandle but it probably doesn't matter.

Billy Sadler was from Pensacola. I remember early 2000’s baseball had a ton of Fl kids. I thought Blake Gill was from Destin, but Bradenton.

No. That would be quite arbitrary and basically still in the middle of the panhandle.(if we’re talking about geography; culturally could be a different story)

Ehhh...More of a velcro fan base really. Whoever the hot team, rip off your old logo and place them. I have family in the area who are all huge Florida fans since Spurrier. Magically became Bama fans with Saban.
