A podcast question: in an 8 team Omaha bracket set up, which LSU champ of the 8 would win the CWS? The 2023 team sounds too easy.

There has to be a simulator we can use and enter all the teams. We can tweak the seeding to avoid having matchups like 91/93 or 96/97 as long as possible.

But when they did, with those bats, the ball would travel about 600 feet.

This year's team would massively push the 2023 team. The bottom line is the pitching was better overall this year. The drop off from Skenes to the other was quite large. In a standard double elimination bracket, how the bracket lays out would be very interesting. If it's just a bunch of two out of threes...etc.

It's out of '91, '97, and 2023. I think 1991 takes it. They were super hungry and could've beaten the Yankees, as they were not gonna be denied. The scores to their 4 games were 8-1, 15-3, 19-8, and 6-3.

The hitting in 23 was massively better than in 25.

I like 23 over all, assuming everyone is using the same bats. The stuff being thrown now is way different than 30 years ago. You might see 100 once a month in 97, you might see 3 different guys do it in a night now.

ETA: and that's not to shite on any of the other years, the game is just different now.

BB cor bats or drop 5? That 23 team swinging drop 5 would be very hard to beat.

LSU was undefeated when Warren Morris played. I'm taking 96.

And oddly enough had the least amount of success at the pro level

2009 had a crazy amount of MLB talent

I’ll take the team with the #1-2 pick in the draft.

Also (and yall can downvote me all yall want but it was a lot more rampant at all levels in the late 90s than it is in 2025):

Give them a year to all train with the same drug testing rules and same bats.

I accept that the Gorilla Ball team was unreal at bat, but would have loved to see its hitters face either Skeenes or Anderson. No memory of who would have been, if possible, comparable pitchers that they faced back then. If any. Now, if it would boil down to Skip vs Jay...........that's not fair as a factor.

2023 is hard to beat in a one game series.

But I think the 2009 and 1997 teams are probably better.

Nola, LeMahieu, Mahtook, Coleman, Ranaudo, Schimpf, and then Jared Mitchell flying around in the outfield. Chad Jones coming out of the bullpen to get the crowd pumped.

I forgot how fun that 2009 team was to watch. Hell, they even carried Manieri to a title. That is almost as impressive as Joe carrying Orgeron to a title.

I think people tend to forget the amount of talent on that 2000 team

To begin with, I think that you would need to separate the teams that went undefeated in the NCAA tournament, including the CWS. Which teams didn't lose a game in the regional, super-regional, or CWS?
