He and another dog got into a fight over a turd. I don't know if I should be proud that he is a warrior or ashamed of his dietary preferences.

This is definitely the most dachshund thing ever. Be proud of your little warrior.

Dachshunds are little warriors. They will fight over anything, as you have so clearly shown.

I did not ask, but my dachshund is a miniature so I assume the other dog was larger.

I would be inwardly proud but outwardly I would punish the failure.

Germans only know authority, so never let up.

Doesn't obedience school teach them to get along?

Where does a Dachshund go after being booted from obedience school?

St Stanislaus of course.

In your dachshunds defense, he probably didnt even want the turd. He just didnt want the other dog to have it.

My sister had three. After the oldest, a female, passed on the other two, both males, were lost. The youngest, and biggest, was whiny and just couldn't get it together. The other male would bark at everything, and I mean everything.

It turns out that with Dachshunds the female is the alpha. Her vet, who also has Dachshunds, told her that she needed another female. My sister put off getting another one for a bit, but the two males kept having problems. She finally decided to get one, and when she did the other's behavior completely changed. Once the new pup got past her puppy phase she got shite sorted out, and everything has been cool since.

I mean, they're still stubborn as hell and don't listen very much, but the whiny behavior and barking stopped.

They were bred to hunt badgers. Sometimes they can’t shake that raw fierceness that’s in their nature.

Yes, they look goofy. Yes, they are small. Yes, they have been the subject of jokes, but they have also been kicked to death in the streets of America because they were the symbol of Germany during two World Wars.

All of that history sometimes creates a little sleeve of hate.
