they are awful. Supposedly attracted to the color black and then movement.

Some people make traps out of hanging soccer balls spray painted black with some sticky spray stuff on it.

Still haven't figured out a way to get rid of them completely

In Mississippi, "yellow fly" most commonly refers to the yellow fly (Diachlorus ferrugatus), a biting fly known for its painful and itchy bite. These flies are found throughout the southeastern United States, including Mississippi, and are most active during warmer months, particularly in shady, damp areas near water.

my parents called them sand flies in SE LA

ever called something a deer fly?

relatively the same thing.

Smaller than a horse fly, but larger than a house fly .

Don't remember these growing up in Louisiana but definitely have them in Florida. They are pretty small but pack a nice little bite and if my wife gets bitten she will swell up so we have benadryl on standby.

yeah people have a bunch of different names for them, but they are different species.

However, horse flies are definitely bigger than yellow flies

I’m in North Florida too and they are terrible. Sometimes they swarm my car when I pull in the driveway and I have to wait about 10-15 mins until they clear up to get out. Never seen one in Louisiana growing up though
