Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Tuesday that the U.S. central bank would have easier monetary policy by now if not for President Donald Trump’s tariff plan.

When asked during a panel if the Fed would have lowered rates again by now had Trump not announced his controversial plan for levies on many foreign trading partners earlier this year, Powell said, “I think that’s right.”

Those tariffs do not seem so controversial now, feel free to lower the rates.

Maybe we need another year of data to be safe though

The Fed Chair is not appointed.

He is nominated by the POTUS and then must be confirmed by the senate.

The senate would not hold confirmation hearings if there is no vacancy in the position.

And it's neuter, not nueter.

The tariffs aren’t controversial because Trump caved into pressure and backed off.

Tariffs do NOT cause monetary inflation. I don’t understand why nobody presses him on this.

Well then he’s a total hack.

That’s the equivalent of saying that he needs higher rates because of tax increases. Tariffs have nothing to do with money or credit creation. They may cause higher costs on some goods but it’s not monetary inflation.
