Following a years-long surge in illegal immigration, the Trump administration is poised to challenge a longstanding but legally fraught practice: counting illegal aliens in the U.S. census.

President Trump tried to end the practice during his first term, but President Biden overturned his predecessor’s policy before it was implemented. Now, buoyed by red state attorneys general and Republican legislators, the second Trump administration is determined “to clean up the census and make sure that illegal aliens are not counted,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller said last month.

What Miller didn’t mention are the political implications of the administration’s move. It could have significant political implications because the census count is used to apportion House seats, determine the number of votes each state gets in the Electoral College for selecting the president, and drive the flow of trillions of dollars in government funds.

Some immigration researchers project that including noncitizens in the census count disproportionately benefits Democratic states with large illegal alien populations. A recent study counters that, based on 2020 census figures, there would have been a negligible shift to the political map had the U.S. government excluded noncitizens from that count. But looking backward, those researchers found, red states would have benefited under the administration’s desired census counting shift. Had authorities excluded such migrants from the 2010 census, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Ohio and North Carolina all would have gained one seat in the House, while California would have lost three seats, and Texas and Florida would have each lost one seat – with the total number of Electoral College votes allotted each state changing accordingly.

Yes. And no they should not determine the number of house seats based on illegal immigrants who can't vote. This needs to be killed and codified.

I have always been puzzled by the word poised. It just seems like someone who is standing on the edge of a chalk line, knees bent, lubed up head to toe, wiping the drool off their mouth, followed up by a large full body stretch, about to pounce.

On a related note if someone is poised and has a son, they usually get sick and can die.

If not congress, who is currently the final arbiter in this situation? The executive or the judicial branch? I know the legislative branch can step in and settle it but they don't have the political capital to do so, so who has the authority to make this call right now?

This is exactly how Harry Sisson and Don Lemon looked before their recent jazz-walk vid.

He can try again. It also gives states electoral votes they shouldn't have. It is real simple. You aren't here legally, your vote doesn't count, you should not count for House seats or electoral seats. Simple as that. Anyone who disagrees sucks cock by choice.

WTF?

He didn't mention it, because that's the whole fricking point. It doesn't need mentioning.

Now that you mention it, it's a word that has a lot more ambiguity than "ready to", "preparing", "scheduled", etc. Poised can also fall under the context of "thinking about", "meeting on", "discussing with", etc.

Since the census determines a states electoral votes, illegals shouldn't be counted because it has direct impact on presidential elections.

This is a no brainer and exposes why Marxist Dems fight so hard for illegals. It has zero to do with compassion and everything to do with Dems quest for power. Dems are simply using illegals as a tool to gain power.
The will of American citizen voters shouldn't be impeded by such frickery.
This can't stand. This issue should be front and center in public discussion.

They have been for a long time.

The Constitution uses the language "persons" not citizens. It's section 2 of the 14th Amendment

quote:

Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.

Not the only reason but it's a big reason. You can't forget about NGO slush funds, cheap labor and illegal voting.

The Supreme Court, since it's Constitutional analysis/interpretation.
