If our FO was so obsessed with Queen, why not pick him at 7?

It's clear they wanted Queen more than Fears but felt that Fears was too good of value at 7
The question is...why did they value Fears so much to make such an idiotic trade to get the guy they really wanted at 7. Does anyone think he's such a great prospect that all of this risk is worth it?

Not necessarily sure they liked Queen more than Fears. Fears had been linked to the Pelicans ever since we got the 7th pick. But it was looking like Fears wouldn’t even be there.

This is what my source also told me. They were all set to draft queen and had him rated higher than the other guys in that tier that woukd have dropped to us. They believed Fears wouldn’t be there.

If they're going BPA you just draft Fears and that's it
But they wanted Queen, clearly to an irrational level. Hence, the insane trade. If he was that valuable, just draft him at 7 and figure it out at 13.
It makes no logical sense to draft both for value and desire, but they did it in the same draft

Bill Simmons had an entire pod making fun of us and he had some draft guy on that had Fears rated as the 20th prospect in the draft lol
Said they couldn’t figure out who the last successful 6ft 2 guard that couldn’t shoot was. Apparently Fears has been a 28% 3 point shooter since 2021.
The Tre Johnson and Fears situation is potentially the Hali/Kira situation all over again.
I actually think Queen is the best player we drafted last night, albiet we got him in an absolutely retarded and reckless manner.

My only solace is that considering the luck we’ve had for the last two decades, there’s just no way we can’t finally have Dumars irrationally luck into a good move. It just has to work at this point!

Sam Vecenie with the Athletic has him at 18. He admits it's low but said Fears is very polarizing. You either completely believe in him as a small lead guard or you don't.

I see some Ja Morant in Fears's game. Not as athletic as Ja. But not a great 3pt% but can attack the defense and score inside and in the midrange against bigger defenders
