Hank Hill is the anti-Al Bundy

Okay, hear me out:
Rewatching some King of the Hill, came across the episode where Hank gets his old coach to come back and coach the team his son plays for.
When the coach claims Hank "cost him state" when he got hurt, Hank reminds him that he would have never MADE state without him... which is one of the few times you're even reminded that Hank played ball in high school.
That just struck me as the opposite of Al Bundy, who CONSTANTLY reminded everyone of his glory days.
Just other differences:
Hank loves his job/career - Al despises his.
Hank rarely brings up past glories - Al reminds everyone all the time.
Hank tries his best with his son, despite them being vastly different - Al, most of the time, feels like he's already given up.
Hank treats Peggy with respect - Al seems to hate Peg even more than he hates his job.
Similarities:
Both have a wife named Peg/Peggy with big hair.
That's about it.

Al Bundy uses charcoal (the blunder with aunt marcys ashes), whereas Hank is a firm believer in "Taste the meat, not the heat"

Mike Judge stuff can be pretty cynical, and I generally like most of his stuff.
King of the Hill stands apart from almost everything else he's done.
Hank takes pride in his home and his work. He's a loving father and husband.
He's a damn fine American.
It is by far the most wholesome thing he's done.

Everyone knows Hank played in school, it's brought up often. The guys were on the team together, Dale was a towel boy.

Al Bundy is an all time legend.
Hank didnt have to put up with half the shite Al did.

Double post but it was worth repeating. Like Al Bundy scoring 5 TDs.

The Billdozer held the Arlen record for most touchdowns: Bills are made to be broken.

Al was zany.
Hank was the ultimate straight man holding together some fantastic characters.

When I watched in college a like Hank Hill. When I rewatched recently in my late 40’s I realize that in many ways I have become Hank. I identified with him so much more.

That's one of the great things about Hank, I believe every normal male in America has some Hank in him.
