Headed to Biloxi next weekend for a short getaway. Never been.

Is horse or greyhound racing still a thing? I get the sense that Biloxi is a gambling town....never been too into slots or table games - but dang I use to love going to the dog track and putting $2 bets on whichever dog pooped on the way to the starting gate.

Any other recs?

We used to go to the greyhound racing tracks in Mobile and Panama City but I haven't been since the Gulf Coast casinos became a thing. I don't even think they exist anymore.

We used to go to the dog races in Pensacola. Your question tweaked my curiosity. According to Google AI, dog racing has mostly died off, except for a few tracks in West Virginia, of all places.

Non-gambling recommendation, but make the short drive over the bridge to downtown Ocean Springs one day. Lots of bars, restaurants, and stores on Government Street.

Biloxi didn't have a greyhound track (well they did in the 1929, but it was converted to a stock car track in the early 50s)

The only 2 greyhound tracks left in the US are in West Virginia. Every greyhound simulcast comes from those two tracks. The casino that owns both tracks in West Virginia is pushing to have greyhound racing shut down, but right now they have to have it or they can't have the casino. As soon as it's uncoupled and they can have a casino without the track they are shutting down.

Palace Casino in Biloxi has a horse race sports book (OTB not tied to a track). You can go there and watch the simulcast of horse races.

Any of these places family-friendly like the dog tracks used to be? I have a couple teenagers coming along
