After watching the replay, their batters turn and stick out their backside in the hit balls. By rule should be same as Dickenson, but it appears like they "try" to get out of the way. As much as the media talks about them practicing getting hit i would challenge it.

I thought the same thing. I think it boils down to this rule needed to be amended given yesterday’s situation.

Said the exact same thing when I was watching it. The one guy has been hit 17 times this year, 2 occurring yesterday.

HPBs don’t win games when you play good defensive teams. The coastal offense relies on errors to get runs in. Thought Bodine’s second HBP yesterday could’ve been overturned on a challenge but one runner on 1st with 1 out is not very threatening with their team so smart to not risk losing the challenge.

The rule is fine, but when you review it and the pitch is obviously a ball it should be a ball and not a strike.

That means the rule isn’t fine and needs to change.

The rule shouldn’t be an automatic strike if the ball was outside of the strike zone.

The rule is stupid.

I get the spirit of it. You don’t want to encourage people leaning into one. I think it needs to be simplified to reward the pitcher for a ball

-if the pitch is a strike (by swing or in the zone), the strike overrides the hit by pitch
-if the pitch is in the gutter between the batters box and the plate and the player makes a clear and obvious intentional motion towards the ball, it is a strike.
-if the pitch is a ball in the batters box and it is determined the hitter intentionally moved into the path of the pitch, the batter is awarded a ball and the at bat continues (unless of course it is ball 4)

My opinion, we need to channel our inner Bob Gibson. If they are gonna get hit make them pay. 95 mph fastball to the rib cage might make them reconsider next at bat

This…if the ball is in the batters box and the batter is hit, it’s a dead issue, take your base…
