Alternate Ending

On Jones' game winning single, the outfielder had no chance to get Hernandez at the plate.
He may, however, have had a chance to back throw to 1B in an attempt to tag Jones prior to Hernandez scoring..
Didi anyone notice if Jones rounded the bag or just ran straight through. When the game ended, the dogpile was in CF

I think he rounded the bag. Arky’s situational awareness that inning wouldn’t even have allowed that thought to cross their mind.

I also thought it was a little strange at first...he just kinda ran out like Hernandez was at 3rd, and not 2nd.
But, looking at this clip, it looks like JJ doesn't start running towards center until after the CF launches towards home, so too late to do anything with JJ at that point.

There was no one behind Jones. The 1st baseman was the cutoff for throw home

Agree. The shortstop would have definitely thrown to 3rd if he had gotten the ball...

What was he going to cut off? The throw to home has to go through. Throwing behind the runner is easier to see in hindsight, but the execution is near impossible.

If balls not tipped no way we score.

Jones was actually still standing on home plate admiring his game winning hit.
You're right, they missed an opportunity.
Smdh.

It is a moot point anyway. Jones is playing the ball. He could have stopped at first if it looked like he needed to. All he would have had to do is get caught in a runoff anyway, just long enough for Hernandez to get home, there's no force, just stay away from the ball long enough.

Jones was rounding first when the throw was going home. No way either are getting thrown out. You say jones standing there admiring, he sure did get up the line in plenty of time.

The more I see it the more I agree. Hernandez was hauling all the arse he could but if that ball goes straight into CF there's a chance he doesn't make it.

Jones didn’t drift far from first until Hernandez was basically on the plate

Thomas is a pretty good center fielder. So it’s safe to assume he glanced there and didn't think he had a play there.

Watch the replay even if he went for Jones Hernandez scores first. He would not have had time to tag him
Posted on 6/20/25 at 6:48 pm to BigLSUNut
Never in the history of baseball has that happened, but let’s talk about the possibility I guess.

bullshite. Had the ball not been tipped, it would have been closer but Hernandez still scores.
