This young man is a beast. Hell, the GOAT of pole vaulting. This is his 12th pole vault world record for the 25-year-old.
So glad I got to meet his family once and watch him vault here

I even want to say his brother played baseball for LSU

Did his mom coach basketball or something? I can never remember

Doesn’t he get a nice bonus payout every time he sets a new world record?

Thats by design. IIRC, he has a contract that pays him a bonus of $100k each time he breaks the record. Thus, he only raises the bar a small amount to allow him to technically break the record by just enough...even though he knows he can go higher.
That doesn't take away from his greatness. It just adds some context as to why he's broken the record 12 times.

A Ukrainian pole vaulter back in the day broke the record 35 times

I’ll care when he has the Stars and Stripes on.

No, the arrogant American coaches will not let his parents coach him.

Yes, so he'll continue to do so incrementally.

Yea, US is where he was raised, educated, everything, then bails for more money. I guess they had a better NIL offer. Puts into perspective NIL. We all judge players like Underwood, but let's not act like we wouldn't do the same exact thing. A lot of people here would switch jobs for $40k more, much less millions more.

He really made this decision based on the US Olympic qualification process and coaching situation, not so much the money.

How so? From what I heard, he makes significant more money there, and would go virtually unnoticed here besides the $37k gold medalist get every 4 years.

Track endorsement money for world record holders and consistent world record breakers is substantial. It's a very popular sport internationally.
Puma, Red Bull, Omega, etc. all pay him a lot of money and would regardless. Some international meets actually pay for world records as well.

I know his daddy Karl Malone. They used to call him the mailman.
