Can someone explain why Curiel was dropped in the order?

Curiel had a hit and two walks whle masterfully working the count in the process. He got on base 3 times which is what a leadoff hitter is supposed to do. In the ninth, the Arkie left-handed reliever looked unhittable on the first two pitches, then Curiel delivered an RBI single to extend the lead.

It's not like CJJ replaced Curiel with a right-handed hitter in the leadoff against the lefty Arkie starter. Pearson went 0-4 with a BB.

Why would you get this far and make such a drastic change? Please indulge me here and make sense of this.

Because jay figured pearson would handle the lefty better, despite his 4 years of data to prove that pearson, while adequate against lefties, still shouldnt be hitting at the top of the lineup. Big brained it

Curiel hasn't been quite as good vs lefties, thus the adjustment. They did this in game 1 vs West Virginia also.

If a righty goes Monday, he will be back at the top.

You are such a pain in the arse. Leave the dude alone already. Why do you want to pile on a guy who plays for the team you are supposedly a fan of?

Isn't that a good thing? Sounds like it paid off.

I like when Curiel is productive down in the lineup when they face a very good lefty starter.

Frey and Jones combined to go 0-8. What good would if have done if he was doing that ahead of those 2? Also, Pearson was O-fer, but he worked the count well as well and he had an RBI. Pearson had a really great 10 pitch AB.

What good would it have done to lead Curiel off in this game if the 2 guys behind him combined to go 0-8.

Personally, I'd like to see Jones batting around 5th and Milam maybe 3rd with Curiel leading off. However, against really good left handed pitching I don't mind him down in the lineup. He can be the leadoff hitter of the middle of the order. He hit a clutch homer in that spot against West Virgiia.

I don't question things that end up working. There can be a lot of reasons that go into it. We'll never know how he would have done leading off in this game, but we do know he was productive where he was. It was nice because he was in a position to drive in runs.

Pearson did his job by working the count multiple times. They clearly had a plan to drive up pitch count. Might result in more Ks, but they also got the pitchers out. He also had an RBI in this game when only 4 total runs were scored.

If it works and LSU is winning I truly don't see any reason to complain or even question it.

this is what we've been doing since the tournament started against lefties. believe it or not Pearson had the highest batting average against lefties on the team when jj started this with the left handed pitcher lineups,it still may be true after today, not sure.

so, to male it as simple as possible, the reason he moved curiel down was because hes struggled against lefties and the reason he didnt go with a righty to replace curiel with is because pearson has been the best bat against lefties

And the Aloy brothers were 1-5. That is what great pitching does.

I was thinking it was to have a solid bat down in the order.

It’s reverse psychology. He’s telling Curiel by his actions he can’t hit lefties, which makes Curiel hit lefties. Curiel will never be in the bottom half of the lineup ever again.

Roasting the guy who got on base twice and had an RBI. Seemed to have worked….

.350 isn’t “adequate”, it’s better than most of the team. Frey has been slumping himself.
Dropping Derek helped him last week and with this being a huge stage, it worked. The only question I had was why he didn’t pull him when they brought in the righty. Brown versus a righty was a better match-up however, you saw what he did to everyone. Maybe he felt Pearson was better defensively. Brown has not been great as there have been plays that actually cost LSU games he has failed to make.

That couldn’t be it because he would not have been there to hear it.
