An unusual train cancellation

Loooks like I may be renting a car in Milan on Sunday and driving to Bolzano.
WWII ordinance I presume?
quote:
We inform you that, on June 15, the Verona – Bolzano line will be interrupted to allow the defusing of a war device in the localities of Verona Parona and Bivio Pc. Santa Lucia, with consequent changes to the long-distance trains.
The Frecciarossa train 8703 booked by you for 06/15/25, is cancelled on the Milan Central - Verona Porta Nuova route.
Therefore, the train will depart from Verona Porta Nuova with departure at 9:38.

We know you’re in Italy, no one cares

Yet, you replied. And no, I'm not there yet. Flying out tomorrow.
Douche.
Douche.

Imagine how much vibration that ordnance has taken over the last 80 years and done ... nothing.

For anyone that cares (which is not Mingo) I had to change to a car rental in Milan and we will drive to Ortisei. Our rebooked train would arrive just after the rental car agency in Bolzano closes for the day and we would be stranded.
Now Sunday will be a leisurely drive through northern Italy and the southern portion of the Dolomites. We get to sleep in a little longer before beginning the drive so it isn't all bad.

How far of a drive is that? One of my favorite things to do is drive through places I've never been and see the sites. I take two lane highways whenever I'm not pressed for time. Not that it's anything like northern Italy, but I drove 2 lane highways through central Missouri and northern Arkansas on the way home to MS last weekend instead of getting on I-70 and I-55. Enjoy the drive!

About 4 hours. We'll take our time and stop for lunch. The drive will take us up the west side of Lake Garda which apparently has some amazing views.

The stretch of autostrada between Verona and Brenner is somewhat stressful to me. There is a metal guard rail on the inside that is really close to the side of the road. Haven't driven that road in about 8 years but not sure they changed it.

Thanks for that information. I will take a look at our route.

Also, Sterzing/Vipitino is a nice little village to visit.

Ironically enough I just got home after driving to Eureka Springs AR and back. Took my time both ways and kept driving to 6 hours a day max. Came back to north GA via Branson and across southern MO via US 60 all the way to Paducah KY last night.

Lake Garda is nothing but incredibly views but the west side has all these awesome cliff side lemon orchards and cut away tunnels. Wonderful hotels as well. Will you be able to get out on the lake on a boat?

No Lake Garda. Just a drive by today. What dinner at Tubladel in Ortisei tonight and it was one of the top 5 meals of my life. They served an Iberian pork dish that was out of this world. I’ll be sure to post a trip review (not for Mingo) when I return. Apparently our restaurant selections for dinner are stellar. Tomorrow is a cable car to the top of Seceda for incredible views.

Mingo's too poor to go to Italy

The railroad workers may just want a siesta or whatever they call it in Italy and made up something. Southern European railroads are not know for their punctuality.

Ortisei is a beautiful place. We hiked the high meadows in 2021. Incredible views. Took the gondola up from the center of town. Would love to ski that area and stay at one of the lodges.

Yes it is. Like drop dead gorgeous. Tomorrow we go to Lago da Braies and if we have time up the cable car to the mountaintop above Ortisei.

Is this your first time in that part of the Alps?

Yes it is and it’s amazing. Beautiful countryside and jagged peaks.

I haven't been to the Italian Dolomites yet. If I go to Austria this year, I will try to make it out that way.
I vacation in Fieberbrunn, Austria every year. The Alps in summer is some of the prettiest places I have ever seen.
Enjoy.
