I support the reasoning behind this, but there are likely diminishing returns at some point. They're not sending their best and brightest, but when you increase the tax that drastically, both the legals and illegals doing this are going to start finding ways to work around it (Bitcoin?). We need to find the sweet spot where we penalize remittances as much as possible, but something like 7% is probably better than 15%.

Also, I'm OK with remittances to Mexico being higher than most other countries, but the tax should apply to ALL countries with large immigrant (legal or illegal) populations in the US (central/south America, India, China, middle east).

There are numerous ways to send money electronically

Might not even need to resort to crypto

I'm sure. But I still see central/south Americans sending money from CVS/Walgreens, which I'm sure costs them in terms of fees. It's basically a Laffer Curve situation, except unlike the American taxpayer, I don't care about the people involved.

I'd assume that illegals are mostly paid in cash, so there may be ways to tax the shite out of their remittances. Legals are probably still capable of getting direct deposits, so taxing their remittances might be tricky.
