Began today at Bayou Oaks in New Orleans.

Landon East and Cooper Edney are leading, in at -5.

No surprise but Greg Berthelot and John Humphries are both -3 thru 17.

Other names I am keeping an eye on are Landon Lyons and Grady Brame Jr. who have both regained amateur status and are in the field. Landon is in at -2. Grady tees off this afternoon.

PGA Tour pro Daniel Berger playing in the Louisiana Am

I got money on John Humphries. I don't know that guy but anytime I've ever checked any big Louisiana amateur results I swear that guy won it.

Kyle Bennett is on fire, Kid played 3 years at UNO so I'm sure he knows the course well.

Don’t think UNO plays at Bayou Oaks but what a great round. 64 is legit.

You would think wrong. They play there often.

I cannot see his name on the Beau Chene tee sheet and not giggle.

It's the equivalent of hearing someone say the word "duty" in a serious conversation or hearing a ketchup bottle fart. It's ridiculous and childish and I cannot stop.

What's even worse is I say it (in my head) in the voice from the movie EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Lowest cut that I can remember seeing in a long time in a LA State Am or Mid Am. Combination of the course not playing as difficult but also having the winner qualify directly into the US Amateur is a big factor. That spot will continue to bring the best college golfers into the State Am Field.

Would be nice to see the state MidAm go back to the minimum age requirement of 25 and have that winner exempt into the US Mid-Am.

Lowest cut line in LGA history by four shots. Also lowest 36 hole led by three shots. Course must be playing pretty easy.

Didn’t realize this. Was wondering why an LSU golfer was playing.

ETA: we got a bunch of rain in the area lastnight and there’s not a touch of wind right now. I would imagine lift, clean, and place and green lights for all the top players. Should be more low scores.

Played the first 2 rounds and missed the cut. Some seriously good golf going on out there. Greens rolling great.

I played with Alan Morgan (LSU golfer) the first 2 rounds in the 2001 LA Amateur at Bayou Desiard. I believe he was -12 after the 2nd round. Went on to finish at -21 and won by 13

You are probably correct. Just repeating what Logan told me yesterday at the course.

Green speeds vary so much between the front and back nine. That’s a little crazy but overall course is in good condition (especially for a public course in New Orleans)

Glad to see Lawrence Allan in the mix. He is the golf coach at Southeastern and is a great dude. One of the most knowledgeable guys I have talked to about golf swings.

I was a senior in high school and qualified for that State AM at bayou DeSiard.

I played a couple groups in front of y’all on day 1. Think I shot about even for the day and was very happy.

Not long after my round I was told I was 8 shots off the lead.
