Quick post. Always remember how blessed we are to be able to move our body and workout.

Just saw a cancer post on the OT Lounge. Puts things into perspective. If you aren't disciplined, you don't have motivation, you're lazy, whatever tf your problem is....workout just because you can. A privilege not everyone has.

Love this board! Put life into perspective and get your arse to the gym...simply because you CAN and not everyone else can.

Just call it deadlift day, and you'll be happier.

I'm recovering from Stage IV kidney cancer and I work out. Tumor free for a couple of years. Finally getting my strength back.

When I got a 2nd chance in this thing called life, I vowed to make better choices (among many other things). This thread hits home for obvious reasons.

Good for you!
I was lucky and didn’t have to experience a lack of health to change my lifestyle. I took a look at several years worth of friends and family that either died early or reached the “golden years” and didn’t have the health to enjoy the retirement life they had been waiting for.
Granted I could get hit with cancer or a car tomorrow but I tell everyone my plan is to be healthy and active wide open enjoying life right up until the day I die.

Totally agree. I try to remember to appreciate what I can do when I'm able vs. only complaining when I'm not. Same with being sick - just enjoy feeling alright sometimes, it's great.

I wear two wristbands every day.
Never give up
Put in the work

I love both those reminders that no matter what life brings I still have my gym time. I feel better at 45 than I did at 30

Being able to get back in the gym after my back surgery was incredible.

Also, changing my focus from max weight to higher rep/lower weight more functional stuff has made a word of difference in my overall health.

Good post.
there is a physical therapy center right down from the gym. Heading to the gym yesterday I saw this lady helping an older gentleman into his car. It took him 30 seconds just to sit down from his walker to the seat.
Made me appreciate the opportunity to workout.

This is purely anecdotal but my grandmother,88, about a year ago had a lot of trouble getting out of chairs. She started going to occupational therapy doing body weight stuff. Within 6 months she was doing sets of 20 air 3/4 squats. I was blown away

Fast forward about a year she falls and breaks her hip. The doctors said if she hadn’t done that OT work before she would haven probably been bed bound. About a month after she is walking up and down the hall with a walker doing PT for 2 hours. Can get in and out of bed with ease. Will be going home in hopefully another 4-6 weeks.

Never too old to get some exercise and help prevent issues even in old age!

Appreciate the post. I have the same mindset.

Lift 4-5 times a week, waking up at 4 am to get a hour in before work. Meal prep breakfast lunch sometimes dinner. Wonder why I do it sometimes.

But pushing 40 and others around me have issues. Bad diets/habits or bad health or bad luck. Guys who could do what I do but choose not to or guys who would like to but are in poor health. It's a motivator.

Plus I have two boys who I hope will at least look at me later in life and want to attempt to stay in shape.

That’s a great story and I appreciate you sharing.
I see a lot of elderly in my practice. The ones that have the best longevity and quality of life are the ones who never stop moving.
