I'm going offshore out of Venice this Friday. It will be my first time, other than a cruise ship to Mexico 20 years ago. I have a bay boat and fish inshore/nearshore all the time, but I have no experience interpreting charts for offshore seas. Some of you experienced offshore fellas give me your predictions for Friday please. Debating on scopolamine patch. I'd rather go without one to see how I do, but I may puss out and use it. I don't want to ruin a day of fishing with vomiting. Thanks.

Get the patch. I’ve been out several times when the forecast was for 0-1 foot seas but the actual seas were 2-3 feet. I didn’t have the patch the first time that happened and still regret it. It not only ruins your trip but everybody else on the boat has to deal with it too.

9-11mph gusts on Friday out of S/SW.

Waveheight, per windfiner, is going to be kind of high, even with lower wind. (Waveheight and wind are hard to lock in this far out)

Not sure what exactly youre fishing in (boat wise) nor how far "offshore" youre going--but you should be fine fishing East Bay rigs and right out of S/SW Passes in 100-200ft of water (being that you can run back to bank pretty quickly).

However, if youre meaning running to 989, etc--I probably would not unless you're running a bigger CC/Cat.

Really need more info on what youre running and what youre looking to do (snapper fish v. tuna/dolphin, etc)

I haven't gotten many details yet. My son called to say someone backed out and I was welcome to fill in. I believe he said boat holds 8 to 12 people. Tripletail Charters. The picture i saw is a big arse boat with quads on it.

If its a 38+ that will help but waves are waves. A big boat can make a rough day tolerable but its still rough. I'm sure it will be fine but OVER Prepare.

Oh, youre going with a Charter.

You'll prob be with Blake on his Black Cat. (i think its 42ft but i cant remember).

You'll be fine unless seas are 4-5+, which it isnt looking that way.

Do you normally get car sick if you visit mountain/if wife drives? if so, take medicine.

If you dont really get seasick, you should be fine without the medicine. I had some green green friends on a 42 cat last year fishing NOLA Billfish Club and it was rough (7-8s) and they never got sick. (one did have a patch tho). The Cats take out a lot of the beating and rocking you are used to in a regular CC.

It never hurts to take the medication anyways--but I for one hate taking anything other than nightly Zzzzquil

Yes, that is his name. I don't get car sick, and my wife never drives. She only rides co-pilot and tells me how to drive, while she screams at all our near-death experiences and saves our lives by pushing the emergency hazard button on the dash.

Sounds like you're like me.

Here's my advise: 1) no medicine (but bring it) and 2) make your wife start driving herself.

Hope this helps

We have been married 34 years i think... there have been a few times when I just pull over and get in the back seat, and tell her she can drive the rest of the way. It is amazing how mad that makes her.

Going on a big charter boat like that, I'd just go. It might be a little rough but you'll be safe in that rig. I'd do the patch or something if you've never been offshore at all, but you should be fine.

The people who get sea sick in decent weather are the people who are stressed out about getting sea sick if that makes any sense. Be hydrated, not extremely hung over, and not shitcanned drunk and you should be just fine.

What Downshift says- if it’s not safe, not fun, not good to go, your Captain will call the trip.

I feel like sea sickness is 90% mental and 10% physical. I’ve never even really thought about it and have never been sea sick. The people that I see always get sea sick are the ones that constantly talk about hoping they don’t get sea sick, and are obviously thinking about it.

I’ve also seen people that are sea sick become less sea sick once you start catching shite and they get distracted.

Yea, what this guy said. That's what I was going for.

I can't say I've never been sick though. I've never puked, but I've wanted to before. On those days where its water, sky, water, sky, water, sky and you never see them both at the same time, idk how anybody completely holds it together in that shite but I have seen people do it.

OP shouldn't have to worry about that. It's super early but the marine forecast is calling for 3's @ 6s west of the pass and 2-3 @ 6s east of the pass at 60nm.

OP, I wouldn't even look at the forecast. There's no need. It'll be what it'll be and the capt will cancel the trip if it's dangerous. It won't be though, and it'll be extremely fun. You'd going to show up, jump on the big badass boat, use someone elses stuff, and basically get treated like royalty vs what fishing on your own boat is like. 3's in a boat that big is nowhere close to dangerous with a remotely competent capt and crew.

Yes it is Blake. I don't even know what we will be targeting, dont care really, I'm just going. I definitely am not overly anxious about getting sick, just thought to ask because my wife brought it up lol.. My wife accuses me of never planning, never worrying about anything ever. I just tell her there is nothing to worry about if you can handle what ever life throws at you.

Put on a patch and forget about it, weather looks to be pretty dang nice Friday. Wind from the south less than 10 mph all day. I'll be south of Ft. Morgan 35 miles in my 23 bay boat, go enjoy your trip.

Hey Hoss,

I am taking my boat to gulf shores in a few weeks while my kid is there playing travel ball. I have all the public numbers loaded. What are the chances I can catch some mingos/ARS? I have a 28' sportsman with twin 200's

Drop squid or pogies on any of those numbers in 75 ft or better and you'll likely catch all the ars you want, problem will be finding them over 16"
I plan on spending 3 days searching for some decent fish all the way out to 50 miles if weather cooperates. I'll post up what I find when I get back. Will you be launching from OBA? If I can locate some decent numbers I will share them with you if You want them. I will be fishing pretty far west from OBA if that is where you launch. That Sportsman will get you wherever you want to go though.

Thanks man, we are staying at the Caribe and keeping the boat there in the marina. I'll have kids so dont really care what we catch. i catch giant snappers back over here. Just want to let the kids pull on something.

i have been on the party boats over there and mingos seem pretty plentiful. Just not sure what numbers to hit... i have hundreds LOL. Guess i'll troll around over the numbers and come back to the ones we mark fish on.
