Next chapter on my immigration book covers racial movement in large cities in the U.S. plus London. After going over the predictable stuff regarding racial trends, housing costs and income classes they came up with a new one. School choice. Big cities have lots of private school options for upper class people to flee lower class public schools. But the new trend is 'too many Asians.' White parents are moving to the second or third best private schools if they have fewer Asians. They fear that their kid cannot compete for graduation honors that might result in college scholarships.
I don't understand this because colleges look at test scores more than your class rank at graduation. Having smart Asian kids around does not lower your test scores.

It’s probably just because they don’t want to be American Confucian Academy.

Nah, they also look at where you live and what school you went to. Some won’t accept more than x number of kids from School Y.

That jogs an old memory. It was back around 1980. St. Mark's School of Dallas was an excellent boys school. The top 10 graduating seniors were also close friends. They decided that they didn't want to split up going to college. So they all applied to Harvard. They were all accepted.

There is a cut-thru street in Gwinnett with at least 6 big arse Korean churches on it. Blew my mind the first time I saw it.

White kids could compete if they spent less time playing sports or other extra curricular activities. It also doesn't help when parents constantlty take their kids out of school to go on multiple vacations during the school year.

I know that's a lot of words just to say, priorities.

State schools have automatic acceptance for a top % of students in a particular high school.

So that strategy kinda makes sense if you want your children to have a balanced education and not just regurgitating memorized stuff from books.

The American media told me that black people were our best and brightest.

Do you have kids that are school-age?

Charter schools here quite literally operate on a lottery system, where "disadvantaged" groups get 7 entries to 1 for white people. It's not hidden or disguised, it's in the lottery terms. How can you compete if you can't even get your kids into the school?

These charter schools then become enclaves of minorities and foreigners, and I am not sure how that is helpful to society at all. It does allow purple-haired teachers to feel proud of themselves for having an all-brown class in a majority white neighborhood, I guess?

None of this has anything to do with the point of my post.

I know one couple who were pissed when their kid flunked everything in his first semester at LSU. He played video games all night every night and slept through all his morning classes. He did well in HS because his parents were there to shut the video stuff off.

This is why its super important to instill responsibility early and to educate them that they are on their own when it comes to the consequences of their decisions. Sadly, way too many kids learn from their parents that they are a victim, that they have 10,000 chances and society teaches them they can be wild when they go to college as it's part of the "experience."

Universities often limit the number of students they accept from particular schools. So that may be a player in the equation as well.

Johns Creek is basically Koreatown of Metro Atlanta with Forsyth County east of 400 catching up.

This has never happened. Ever.

Those particular white kids can afford to go to any college, and class rank doesn't mean shite.

It definitely happened in Alpharetta/Johns Creek, with the white families moving to Forsyth County (the Asians still followed them though)
