So Great not only do we have hurricanes, tornadoes and floods, but apparently now we can have earthquakes and tsunami too.

Hopefully this is not a temor or something before the big quake. I knew about the new Madrid fault but didn’t know we had one in Pensacola.

Is this “just” as in a few minutes ago or are your referring to yesterdays 3.1 in the same area?

Magnitude 3.1 earthquake felt just over 70 miles from the Pensacola Beach coast

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded in the Gulf on Friday afternoon.
The earthquake happened around 2:41 p.m., roughly 70 miles southwest of the Pensacola Beach coastline
A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded in the Gulf on Friday, May 23.

The earthquake happened around 2:41 p.m., roughly 70 miles southwest of the Pensacola Beach coastline at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

This is the first earthquake to occur near the Pensacola area since a magnitude 2 earthquake was registered in Jay on Sept. 3, 2020.

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was felt just over 70 miles southwest of the Pensacola Beach coastline on Friday afternoon.
How rare are earthquakes in Florida?

Earthquakes are extremely rare in Florida. Over the past 20 years, Florida has only had two earthquakes reported on land, according to the USGS. Both earthquakes happened in the Florida Panhandle in 2019.

There have been three earthquakes reported near the Florida coastline, including Friday’s. The first was a magnitude 3.5 earthquake nearly 14 miles southeast of Dauphin Island, Alabama, and the other was a magnitude 4, which happened roughly 106 miles east of Cape Canaveral. It’s the strongest earthquake recorded near the state.

Florida Panhandle experienced almost back-to-back earthquakes in 2019

Two nearly back-to-back earthquakes struck Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in March 2019. The quakes were part of a series of minor earthquakes that, along with three others, happened along the Florida-Alabama border.

The first was a magnitude 2.8 earthquake that hit a little more than a mile northwest of Jay on March 7, 2019. A magnitude 3.1 earthquake rattled an area a few miles north of Flomaton, Alabama, on March 11.

Two days later, an area a few miles east of Flomaton experienced two earthquakes, clocking in at magnitudes 2.2 and 2.3.

I thought you basically will never have a tsunami in the GOM due to geological factors but what do I know

Was in one of similar size in Fort Morgan that was centered in the Gulf around Dauphin Island.....
Quakes in that part of the world feel much worse than they are because of liquifaction.
